Hi Penelope, as Newmomma said there are good and bad stories about every hospital in the country. Assuming you are having a normal healthy pregnancy the Midwife Led Unit would be a great option for you – no waiting times….private birth suite…labour pool….one to one midwifery and your hubby can stay over 🙂 There are only 2 of these units…[Read more]

Hi Superminder – yes unfortunately you have to see a Doctor and they can refer you to the MLU.
Hope you get a chance to use the service – it’s amazing!

Hi Angie,
Only mums that are going to the Midwife Led Unit get to use the pool. At the moment mums can labour in the lovely deep pool but get out to give birth.

How are you enjoying your appointments at the MLU? Have you been in to see the unit yet?

Hi Mammycool ! Hopefully you’ve had your baby by now and had a great experience. For other mums reading this the midwives in the Lourdes take your birth preferences very seriously and are generally very supportive.
Assuming everything is normal they’re great at helping you have the birth you want and if things change they’ll discuss your…[Read more]

Hi Laura I would give the MLU a call. I think sometimes the classes are combined with the general antenatal classes but they also include information on use of the pool. You’ll LOVE the MLU !!!
Sorry I don’t have more info.

TracyDonegan replied to the topic Low Lying Placenta in the forum Pregnancy & Birth 15 years, 3 months ago
Hi JMum
Most of the time it’s not an issue.
As the lower part of the uterus grows the placenta is moved away from the cervix (the placenta itself doesn’t move 😉
If you have any concerns do give the hospital a ring.
Chances are everything will be fine at your next scan !
Best of luck

Does she iron too ? 😉 Some of the private midwives even stay over night if you’re having any bfing issues….. and with the new grants it means homebirth is nearly free.
Great to hear about homebirths in the Drogheda area !!

TracyDonegan replied to the topic Just pregnant – Decision time Public or Private! in the forum Pregnancy & Birth 15 years, 4 months ago
It is such a personal choice. Midwife Led Care is recommended for women that are having normal pregnancies (ie most women) I would give the MLU a call and see what they say.
Going private isn’t cheap and many women choose it for ‘peace of mind’…but the thing is study after study has shown that you are more likely to have a normal birth with…[Read more]

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the MLU in Lourdes/Cavan this unit is very similar (except ours is bigger) 😉

If you’re eligible for the Midwife Led Unit that would be my first stop ! Private care that’s the same cost as public care – F R E E – 😀
A few of the mum here have used the scheme and everyone raves about it.
You can stop in and see the unit any time you like – I think if more mums had a look at the MLU unit and the facilities and…[Read more]

Hellsbells – if you do go home after the 3 days be sure you have some help at home and don’t over do it ! The staff on postnatal are great. I just finished up my 4 week placement on post natal and the midwives were wonderful !

Hi Polly,
I know how disappointed you must be. One of the biggest differences with the MLU & CLU is that you probably won’t have met your midwife before but the staff on the CLU are fantastic.
The CLU does tend to be busier BUT there are times when it’s empty….so you just never know. You can still use the bath/shower downstairs and…[Read more]

IF any mums reading this have a choice and can get on the MLU it’s definitely the best way to go if you’re having a hospital birth. You get to know a small team of midwives and spend about 30 minutes chatting with you at each appointment .
Your appointments are on time, you get to labour in your own private room with your midwife and stay in…[Read more]

Hi Moonflower – a doula compliments the care you’re receiving from your midwife or consultant. As a doula my main focus is on your emotional and informational support – and as the hospitals get busier this is an area that the midwives can’t always provide. The benefits of having a doula is well documented (less cesareans, less assisted…[Read more]
