LouthMam replied to the topic Bedtime routine – are yours settled? in the forum Newborns, Babies, Toddlers, Kids, Teens! 10 years, 7 months ago
The evenings are getting a bit darker now, which helps with convincing them it’s bedtime. I’m also taking my guys out somewhere everyday after school to wear them out. By the end of October that’ll probably have to stop though as it gets so cold and dark.
They’re some interesting tips MUMMY5 that I’ve never tried before. I must try the calming…[Read more] -

LouthMam replied to the topic Cooling down in this crazy hot weather!! in the forum National Chat 10 years, 9 months ago
We are staying in the midlands at the moment and no one would be getting any sleep in this house if it wasn’t for the two fans we have set up!
There is such a dead heat down here – we can hardly stick it. At home we have the chance of a breeze from the sea but there’s not a breath of air down here. I have one fan facing towards the baby’s cot at…[Read more] -

Haha, I’ve heard a few of them myself. Yes, it’s so frustrating when you’re on your last legs and just want baby to arrive.
But… what was even worse was getting out to the shops, without my ten day old newborn, feeling good about myself, dressed up a bit with make-up for the first time in ages, and someone saying one of those five things to me…[Read more]

LouthMam replied to the topic what age to start school? in the forum Louth Chat 11 years, 2 months ago
Personally, I’d send them. My DD was 4 last April and started junior infants last September and she’s doing great. There are some children in her class now turning 6 years of age and I personally believe that they are too mature for JI.
As Yvonne says, talk to their playschool teacher, school etc. The schools usually recommend a cut-off date…[Read more] -

Well Mumstowners, I almost got to meet you all yesterday. Got 4 yr old off to school, and then got myself and the two younger ones ready and out the door before 10 o’clock (doesn’t often happen!). Got to the door of the Marshes when the baby was sick everywhere 🙁 . Clothes, pram, everything ruined. Had to turn around and go home – there was…[Read more]

We sky+ the Toy Show and watched it yesterday evening and really enjoyed it. I had never watched the Toy Show before, even as a child, so it was a new experience to me. I thought it would be all cringey with precocious kids etc butit wasn’t at all!
Am not a major Ryan Tubridy fan but he did a great job and is very natural with the kids. The…[Read more] -

We went to see Santa at Newbridge House and Farm yesterday near Donabate and I have to say that it was lovely day. The elves show you around the house a little bit and show the kids the room where Santa reads the letters, and where Santa eats his dinner etc.
They also took the childrens’ names and what they want from Santa from me on the quiet,…[Read more] -

Happy birthday Hailey. Hope you have a lovely day and do something nice with her.
I always think that the first birthday is really a celebration for the parents as we’ve done such hard work for the year and it’s a lovely milestone to reach. Congratulations! -

Police have arrested Bridger for poor April’s murder now and they have called off the search for her. He must have given them some information finally. They are looking for a body now. RIP little April – it brings it home to all of us with small children how vulnerable they are.
My two and a half year old learned about "stranger danger" on…[Read more] -

RIP James. I know two of the friends who were with him on the trip (I used to babysit them). They got home on Thursday – absolutely devastated. He was in the taxi with them to go on to the nightclub and jumped out at the last minute and said he wouldn’t go. They don’t know why really. One of the guys had stayed on at the bar and everyone…[Read more]

LouthMam replied to the topic Help….with the minefield that is eggs! in the forum National Chat 11 years, 11 months ago
I gave mine eggs at around 9 months old. Always did scrambled egg for them so they had the yolk and white at the same time. I was told by the nurse at my doctor’s surgery to make sure that they had eggs before 10 months old so that we could see if they took a bad reaction to them before the MMR was given. I think the MMR vaccination is…[Read more]

Her sister is unbelievably forgiving – I don’t think I could do it. I couldn’t even contemplate something as horrific as that happening.
God, what was she thinking? No seatbelts, nevermind boosters. So so sad and the ultimate price has been paid for stupidity and carelessness.
RIP little angels. -

Oh the Mammy Guilt! We all suffer from it. I stay at home but then feel guilty that I don’t give them enough variety, and I can be snappy because I spend so much time with them that I can resent it at times. And then I think that if I worked outside of the home I might have more cash so that I could bring them to different places and maybe pay…[Read more]

If I’m going mad for something sweet I make up a dessert with low-fat sorbet with meringue mashed through it. Always keep some meringue nests in the press for that. Fruit too if you really want to be healthy.
Or sugarfree jelly mixed with fromage frais and left to set in the fridge is nice too.
Or marshmallows – yep pink and whites are great…[Read more] -

I’m very sorry to hear that oriordan. It’s an awful thing to happen, I know. Go easy on yourself over the next while. I’m sure you will find the strength to get through this horrible time. Keep those that make you happy close by and maybe try to plan some nice things to do for when you’re feeling a bit better again.
