Been there done that Anne, they don’t sell them in the Republic. Sainsbury’s in Newry are the nearest vendor. I got so desperate I rang the factory at one point last year.

They only sell them here in the Republic as a special for Christmas.

On the canvassing front its easy knowing that last Sunday was a nice day…. I had Peter Fitzpatrick & Brendan Breathnach in person within 20 minutes of each other.

In saying that Brendan Breathnach apologised when I opened the door, he realised that he was right behind the other crew…. I said it didn’t matter as long as Big Gerry wasn’t following him, lol. 8)

At the minute Mark Dearey who is a Green is the one I’m most impressed with. I’ve had dealings with him before and I have to say anything I have asked of him information wise he’s delivered. He has also arranged a couple of meetings for me in the past with some of the bigger wigs and even when I have to ask him something ridiculous for the orchestra, he keeps a straight face before he answers (and believe me I’ve had to ask some stupid things…. like…. do you Bono? 😳 ) He owns The Spirit Store in Dundalk and someone thought he might have a contact! 🙄

I nearly caved yesterday…. but I keep reminding myself she’s TY this year so she hasn’t even any music…. NO, if I have to buy her a ladder to get in and out across the piles of stuff….. I’m determined, and I’m very stubborn so chances are the more annoyed I get looking at it the less chance there is I’ll do it for her!

From what I gather with my friends, the boys aren’t as bad as the girls….

The dirty washing will always arrive, its a handy way to get rid of it off the floor, the chair, the dressingtable….. now whether its dirty or not is another thing. I found a shirt in the wash on saturday that was ironed on monday or tuesday and never worn in-between….. that means it was flung in a ball and then she didn’t know whether it was clean or not…. if in doubt throw it in the basket!

My 2011 Resolution was not to clean the room, I’ll make the bed when she’s at school and take down dirty washing if the room is respectable and I can tell what is and isn’t.

But if its a tip, she can make the bed herself, I’m not breaking my neck to try and get over to it! I’m told its the only way she’ll learn…. so far not seeing it.

I gave up working full time when my last dd was born. I think because it wasn’t a conscious decision at the time I did get it very hard to settle at the time. I missed financial independence, lunchtime shopping, adult company and being out and about and dressed smartly for work.

For my first DD I worked all through primary school. We never did after school activities, unless they were 7.00 p.m. onwards or Saturday Morning. I never got to see any of her school plays, didn’t get to help her get dressed after the school swimming lessons, go on any trips when she was in playschool etc. Yes we had more new clothes and a foreign holiday every year but no time in between.

My youngest is now in Playschool, so 3 years on. I’m here when the teenager comes in everyday half starved, period pained or whatever is on her mind. This week I’m transporting her between TY Work Exp. We’ve shifted our music lessons to earlier in the evening and Saturday we can do what we want.

I drop my youngest DD to playschool everyday and collect her, we go to Ballet on a Wednesday afternoon. I was there when Santa came to the Playschool, I’ll be going on the Annual Summer Trip. We go to feed the Ducks on a Friday afternoon and swim a couple of afternoons a week, we get to spend time together. Okay we don’t get new clothes as often but she doesn’t care as long as she has her Belle Dress anyway, lol. We’ve only been on 1 foreign holiday since she was born but we’ve had more adventures. Camping in Clare, Hostels in Donegal a house in The Gaeltacht.

Also on the personal side. I’m here, my house isn’t a palace by any means but its clean. I’ve developed a small celebration cake business, which is a universe away from doing Legal Accounting and I love it and I’ve time to be involved with my teenagers pursuits also. I’m involved in her Orchestra and I love my time with them. Sometimes I think I’m busier than I ever was working, lol.

Work full time or be a more time Mother… don’t have to think which I’d rather, no regrets!

    Hi Taylor,

Thanks for those idea’s. We tried Argus, Democrat & Essentials Magazine, to be honest I didn’t think of Drogheda Indo, we’re closer to Dundalk so it just never dawned on me.

Someone here has been kind enough to get us a contact within LMFM and we’re emailing there at the minute.

She’s a young almost 16, wouldn’t be streetwise enough just yet for Dublin to be let loose on the Matthews Bus and I don’t have anyone up there to keep her and watch over her for me, so we didn’t apply for anything up there.

We didn’t try the Library because we were trying the Arts Office and they are all Council ran… so thought we would hit one at a time.

We had concentrated mainly on media this time round, I honestly never thought of DKIT. I don’t think Boylesports would be able to take her, its been gambling and her underage. And she would be useless in a Hospital, very squeemish I’m afraid.

I don’t think she needs Garda Clearance for to work with kids because she’s under 16 she’s deemed to be a child herself.

    Hi Scole,

Would you believe that she has written to every one of those you mentioned and not one of them answered her letter.

She did her last stint in a Primary School and she got on really well, she can’t go back to the same place and we were trying anything really to do with music, media etc but nothing. She’s hoping to teach hasn’t made up her mind yet whether she wants Music & another subject for secondary teaching or primary and teach music outside of school.

I can’t give her away, lol.

From what I’ve seen of her clothes-washing, house-keeping capabilities, I think your better off struggling alone, lol…. she is a teenager.

My DH is here most of the time, for a few weeks he had to stay away 5 nights at a time because of the snow really.

Small stuff yeah I’d go ahead and get it sorted. But to be honest no I wouldn’t call in workmen to do any alterations or buy anything for the house over say €100 without saying it to him first.

Its not because he’d expect me to clear everything with him but thats the type we are we talk about everything, we price everything over and over and sometimes I think we just over-analyse everything.

But I did discover when he was away that as a long term way of working a household it just would’nt work. Yes you need to talk, but you need to be able to go about life also and sometimes that means taking the iniative and making the decision alone.

There are very few places in the world where someone is completely uncontactable for weeks at a time. Tell him if he wants more input to sort something out a satallite phone or something because youcan’t hold off on everything esp. with 3 small kids for weeks or a month at a time.

I do think the others are right and he’s feeling guilty because he’s missing out on a lot by being away. But he should be able to find a way to make contact every so often when he’s not in the country.

I think its great, thinking of sending my 15 yr old instead of to The Gaeltacht.

I know between her pals. None of them can cook or sew as much as a button. Home Ec is all theory at school nowadays.

In saying that unless you were married to a fisherman and even then…. who guts fish? They do it in the fishmongers, lol. Last year they made them make Black Pudding from Scratch, ie Buckets of Blood.

The sewing lady is very funny. But I think Imelda is more like someone from Ladette to Lady.

Only thing is my Mum got the ICA Booklet in the post this week and if you look through it there are an awful lot of Fashion and Make Up related courses this year….. so maybe they should make it a bit more relevant to what they actually do in An Ghrianan. There is a lot more Jewellery Making, Millinery, Floristry etc than gutting fish and milking cows! And I don’t see any car maintenance in the book either. But sure its all a bit of craic and the looks on there faces were priceless.
