I think one of the major problems in this country is that too many people go into childcare who simply aren’t suited to the job. There are many unemployed young women being sent on FETAC childcare courses because there is an assumption that they are girls so they will be good at it. I say this as I know someone who was told go on the course or…[Read more]

Currach books normally publish non fiction Irish interest titles but they have branched out into the children’s market with Maria Burke’s The Ark of Dun Ruah. This is a tale of adventure and fantasy which will appeal to children aged 10-13 approx. It features the story of orphaned brother and sister Simon and Kerry Macken who live in the normally…[Read more]

Well done for sharing twinnys PND is much more commom than many people realise and I think there is added stigma because the sufferer thinks it should be the happiest time of their life because they have a lovely new baby. I also suffered after all of my babies I have three and it takes time and patience and help from family and friends. We…[Read more]

Bookwitch replied to the topic Savita inquest – what do you think? in the forum National Chat 11 years ago
I think it shows what a confused system we have had surely there has to be a way of helping women who are suffering? because of the tangled legal issues doctor have to tread so carefully they should be able to make medical decisions appropriate to the health of the patient without worrying that they will be questioned. I feel sorry for the midwife…[Read more]

If the legal side of things is sorted out then at least something good will have come out of this tragedy. I think the husband is an incredible strong and brave man and I admire his conviction. I really hope that he finds happiness in the years to come he deserves it.

Bookwitch replied to the topic Savita inquest – what do you think? in the forum National Chat 11 years ago
Its a horrible tragedy that could have been prevented we’ll have to wait and see if they decide there was medical negligence but it breaks my heart that the law allows this to happen. There is so little respect for women from state institutions. I would like to see abortion legalised but that is my personal opinion and what happened to Savita…[Read more]
