The Office of public works (OPW) has opened up Heritage sites across Ireland for free to anyone under 12 for the summer.
This includes the likes of Kilkenny Castle and Newgrange.
So if you are bringing 3-4 kids, they all go free once they are under 12 and you only have to pay for the adult (s) taking them.
We are definitely going to Newgrange!

I attack the cleaning with venom. My hubby usually wanders in, takes one
look and me and backs out as quietly as he can! LOL!!!I feel sorry for my hubby & son, before they know it, there will be 3 girls and one woman in this house with PMS and apparently when women live together, they all get on the same cycle.
My sisters and I are not even living together and we all get them around the same time.
Lots of insanity to come in this house in a few years I’d say……the fells better run!!! 😆 😆
We got some salads from Stockwell cafe last year and have to say, it was gorgeous.
We got a mix of salad stuff and they had them all in individual containers and we just opened them up at the table and let people serve themselves.
It was super easy, very tasty and not expensive.
You can do cheese and pineapple on sticks and also, fruit skewers (kids love these!)
You could also do chocolate, fudge and fruit skewers too. Yummy!!
If any of your relatives have a speciality dish they make ask them to bring it along. My aunt makes a great lasagna and my Nanny makes super apple tarts so I usually ask them to bring something along.
You could also get a couple of loaves of fresh bread (like vienna loaf, sourdough) and just cut them into slices and have rolled up slices of ham and turkey laid out beside them so people can make open sandwiches with the bread, meat and some salad.

Feeling a bit nervous now. They rang me and went through about a hundred questions about the surgery and now I am scrubbing off my nail polish in preparation!!!
It is a disaster, especially when you have to take time off work and they don’t do what they said they would.
I got a call the other day and my knee surgery will take place next Wednesday 16th November. They are going to do keyhole surgery and will scrape out any excess cartilage build up and will flush out the knee, to clean it up and hopefully my kneecap will sit back into the knee in a better position then. I am nervous but after 18 months of pain every day, I am glad I am finally getting it done.
They called me yesterday and went through everything with me and it looks like I should be in that morning and out that afternoon. Fingers crossed. I have to bring a an overnight bag with me but hopefully won’t need it.
I am working like a madwoman this week, have 4 meetings on Thursday and loads to do before next Wednesday so that I can work from home for a week after the op to rest and recuperate. That’s the plan anyhow….
So, the hospital called me yesterday about my consultants request to put me on the surgery list and they said that will hopefully contact me with my appointment date soon. Apparently, the person who gives out the appointments was off yesterday, so they could not give me any idea about a date.
I don’t mean to be churlish – but why did they even call me then? They don’t know when it will be. They could not give me an approx time or date because the person responsible was out. They had no new information at all to tell me. It seems that if one person is off the whole place comes to a standstill.
I thanked them for calling and asked if they had any idea of when it might be and they said nope, not a dickey bird. I wanted to ask, ‘why did you call me then?’ but as I am hoping to get a date for this long awaited surgery soon, I was as nice as pie. Confused but nice!!!
I despair for the HSE. It is so mismanaged its laughable. Well, it would be laughable if it didn’t have such a negative effect on peoples lives.
Still waiting on any word from them about the next step. The doc last week said he would dictate a letter and that now the doctors are in agreement about the next step, which is surgery, that it should happen soon.
My head is melted but I feel good knowing that things are finally happening. I am in so much pain since the steroid injection. I have shooing pains down my shin and up the back of my thigh. Its horrid. I am not sleeping much since I had that tbh.
I do think the surgery should have happened a year ago and if I had 6,000 to spend I would have went private long before but. But hopefully I’ll get an appointment soon.

I got a call from HSE yesterday asking could I come to Navan today for a ‘second opinion’ and also, tomorrow, for a ‘third opinion’!!
So I went this morning – my hubby came with me and the doctor apologized for the whole sorry mess and thoroughly examined my knee. He said I do need surgery and he is going to recommend this to his colleague and hopefully they can get me booked in soon.
His colleague is off this week but when he comes back next week, there will be a letter waiting for him recommending booking me in and I hope it will be soon!!
He also said I do not need to come over tomorrow, because they now have a plan in place.
So after all the pain and frustration it finally looks like they are going to do what the A&E doctors recommended 17 months ago and do the scope and flush it out during surgery.
Fingers crossed its very soon so I can get back to myself and get back our walking and lose the stone I’ve put on in the past year!
Thanks for all the support gals – I know I am being a complete pain in the bum with all my moaning but sometimes I just need to rant a bit.
I’ll keep ye posted about when I get the appointment…..please let it be soon!!!!!
