The HSE are now calling kids up to the age of 5 for the swine flu jab. my wee man is a year old, don’t know if i should get him done or not. How is everyone else feeling about it? Has anyone got it done? If so what was the reaction?

Well i got the Swine Flu vaccine last thursday,

I have underlying medical problems i would be a chronic asthma.

I would have had concerns but i did question myself when i seen the amount of people gettung it done with children – all colours / gender / age / status in society

Both my children 8 & 11 would be fit and healthy…. I don’t know about them- i woul be afraid in 4 or 5 years that there would be side effects found like other injections..

I really don’t what to advise

I got it done because other people who have died at Lung complications and i am afraid.

hi girls, i got my swine flu jab and the flu jab i am 31, so my arm was a little sore for a couple of days…….not looking forward to my 2 babys getting it 😥

I am a little unsure about them getting it but……. i think they need it!!
i would rather they were protected from the swine flu instead of dying from it 😯

I think I will be getting the jab for my LO who is 15mths old. The only way of getting this thing under control is mass vaccination and the vaccine is apparently so similar to the regular flu vaccine I think the risk (if there is one) is miminal. As far as I know children in the high risk groups get the annual flu vac as a matter of course – as this vac is very similar in structure I feel the Swine Flu vac must be safe.

I can however understand the reluctance of some pregnant women to get the vaccine – it is a difficult choice to make in pregnancy when normally vaccines wouldn’t be administered. Having said that if I were pregnant I think I would prefer to go for the vaccine then have to take anitviral medication like Tamiflu.

    Just my opinion.

I range the helpline yesterday with questions and they are not giving it to babies just yet, will be a few weeks. Still only treating the people with underlying conditions, their family if needed etc and pregnant women. I work as a childminder and was asking questions from a childminder’s perspective but its still not rolled out to the general public or children yet.

Robbie had his done last Thursday. He is totally fine after it not even a sore arm or a mark. I will be getting it for myself and I think I will also be getting it for my other son. Not sure if DH will get it, I hope he does though……

    Hi

Adults – go to Doctors for jab
Children, Elderly, Pregnant women – Clinic for jabs
The clinic jab has no chemicals in them and they are the american jabs, safe for babies, children and pregnant women etc
If your fit and healthy adult you get it off your gp but it has mercury in it and it is harsher on the body that the clinics one.
You shouldnt get the flu from the vaccine because it is a dead virus in the jab and unless you already have the flu in your system when you get the flu the side effects if any should only last for about 24hrs.
This is what my doc told me. So Im getting them done in the clinic in navan hospital its a walk in clinic. Better to be safe than sorry i think. My two girls have been sick with chest infections over the past two weeks and i couldnt imagine the chaos if they or we caught the swine flu!! 😯

Some docs aren’t doing it and you have to go to the Haymarket in Drogheda for it. Was suprised mine isn’t as its a big practice.

    Hi,
can someone do me a favour, would love to hear what another doc or hse clinic says about this if anyone who’s going to one could ask?
i got my jab last week as did dd who’s 2.5yrs. my doc told me i would only need one but to bring dd back in three weeks for her second jab. i phoned hse information line and they told me that they are reccomending that EVERYONE gets 2 jabs currently not just kids, it has been suggested that 1 jab might be enough for adults but they are still not completely sure yet. would love to hear what others are being told, and should i just insist on getting the 2nd jab when i bring dd for hers?

    thanks.

Happymammy: we both got our jabs done in doctors office and they never suggested that the other one available in the hse clinics is better for kids, should they have? i did check out before i went about mercury and side effects and was told they were negligable!

Im getting my two done, well thats what I come to believe… if anything happened them god forbid (like a death) could you live with yourself thinking if you got a vacine you could have prevented it? That is my reason for getting it.
But after talking to my mum she put a spanner in the works, my mams best friend has a daughter missing her right arm from the elbow down, she was one of the woman who took the anit morning sickness tablet talidimide (sp) Mary was saying if she had younger kids or grand kids she wouldnt allow them to get it as she was told 30 odd years ago that the talidimide was safe but it wasnt, she thinks its not tested enough and more clinical test should have been done before rolling it out…..
I still think Im going to get it done. will be in the clinic tomorrow (and Friday) jeez might bring a sleeping bag 😆 😆 😆 So I’ll ask about it

But at least they would be alive, if this hits the kids hard like they are expecting it to i am taking my chances, if my kids have one arm then so be it at least i will still have them 🙂
