I got a letter a few weeks after birth of my daughter asking me to book in for a free cervical smear test. I phoned up and explained I had just given birth and was breastfeeding, so would not be able to go for a few months, until my menstrual cycle is back to normal, as I am not having any periods while breastfeeding.

They said fine and that I should hold onto the letter and go mid-cycle when I have periods again.

A few weeks later I got a letter from my GP office, asking why I had not come for my free smear test. I called and explained to them I am breastfeeding and cannot come yet and they said fine, come when I am finished feeding and have my cycle back.

This week I got an Urgent Final Reminder letter, from Cervical Healthcheck at the HSE telling me it was my last chance to avail of the free smear test I am being offered and that I should book immediately!

I phoned again and explained why I had not booked and asked could someone please make a note and stop sending me letters & reminders! My mother had cancerous cells removed from her womb so I am very conscientious about having regular smear tests and I intend to go as soon as I have periods again but these guys are starting to annoy me now with all these letters!!

All these letters are on color headed paper and someone must have typed, printed and posted then out at some expense. Despite my calls, the HSE did not put a note to say I could not come for a few months and instead, they are wasting their own resources following up with me when it has been made clear to them, I cannot go at the moment!

is it any wonder they are in the state they are in. there is no cross communication between departments at all and no accountability. drives me mad that there are cuts being made while they are wasting money so frivolously. grrr….. :x

Don’t even get me started as this is the norm rather than an abnormal incidence!

    Yes zero communication.

I think I said it to you Sabbi, but I had a situation too, and a very upsetting phone call a week after my daughter died asking why in a very annoyed voice why I hadn’t attended my specialist scan in Dublin 🙁 🙁

I was upset not so much for me but for the fact someone else could have had that appointment.

I had received a reminder text whilst IN hospital and told one of the nurses to make sure Dublin were contacted…but it wasn’t done obviously

    The HSE is a Disgrace!!!!!!!!

No Other words for it. There is no care, no follow up, no ownership of issues. everyone passes the buck and takes no responsibility.

    it drives me nuts!!
