March 6, 2010 at 9:26 am #90947sunshineorlaMemberHiya Moonflower,
Yes it’s all going well. My dh and myself each had our personal interviews which are 2-3 hours along and based on a form you already have filled out. Then my sis was interviewed who lives with us. She is a teenager so it was important she supported the whole idea. We had our relationship interview during the week. I think it was just over an hour. We have one more interview to do. It’s regarding parenting. There is a fair bit of paperwork and we still have some more stuff to get. Then when all thats done it’s written up by the social worker in to a report and then we apply to the panel. Then they give the yes or no. They can apply certain restrictions on you as far as the ages of the children you foster so we will see what happens then. You start with emergency care, temporary fostering and respite. When you have a relationship built up you can move into longterm. IT wont be long now, I think, fingers crossed.March 6, 2010 at 10:10 am #90953Maria30MemberHi Sunshineorla,
Just want to wish you all the best and good luck with the fostering. You will be helping so many children and their families through difficult stages in their lives.
I hope you get the go ahead soon. The country definitely needs more people like you.

March 7, 2010 at 7:58 am #90988MoonflowerMemberthats brilliant news, sounds like you have to go through a lot of questioning but so worth it in end!
yes & it would be wonderful if more people volunteered for this but it has to be for right reasons & of course its not for everyone.
its lovely to hear how you are getting on though! so keep me posted please!
it must be exciting but a bit daunting as well, my sisters best friend in england is just going through adoption process over there, & its full of setbacks but when they finally get accepted there is a list so long of children waiting for new families, especially siblings that want & need to stay together, that they know they just have to keep going! and same here i would imagine.
wishing you many sunny days to come ,

March 7, 2010 at 10:15 am #90992sunshineorlaMemberThanks girls. Just talking to someone Iknow who is trying to adopt in Cork. Yes it’s a very hard frustrating process here too. It just seems to get worse every year. My aunt has a wee chinese boy and bad and all as it was 7 years ago it’s twice as long to adopt from there now.
Fingers crossed for us anyway. All the talk about the kids in care now is a bit scary too.March 28, 2010 at 9:12 am #92506sunshineorlaMemberHave finished all our interviews. Just have some more paperwork to get sorted ourselves. Should be going to panel, the deciding body, in mid may. All in all not too bad. Have a lot of jobs to do around the house to bring it inline with their standards. Mostly outdoor work, fencing etc. But it means all those little jobs my hubbie has been avoiding get done now. 😉
March 30, 2010 at 11:12 am #92739JedtKeymasterGood luck Orla,
You would be great at this, just seeing the way all the babies love you at baby massage shows how maternal you are!
Best of luck, hope it all goes smoothly,
We’ll be in Dundalk Thursday if you fancy a trip over for a yap and for your little guy to have some play time 😆

June 8, 2010 at 9:29 am #95317sunshineorlaMemberWe have our final house check on Friday….still waiting for the fence to be done….MEN! So I hope we can get it done by Friday with the wet weather. Then we are going to panel next week…..where you get approved or not. We have been doing a fostering course for last 4 monday nights. Very informative especially from the people who are actually fostering. Definitely gives you a realistic view of things.
Still waiting on stuff to come back from America. however long that will take. So fingers crossed we could have little ones in tow prettysoon.
There is a huge increase in the kids that have come into care in last 2 months so families are badly needed.
Good luck everyone!!!!June 8, 2010 at 11:05 am #95319MoonflowerMemberlovely to see its all moving along for you. u must be very devoted to it as seems to hav been a tough journey to get this far….so hope it all goes well for you in future….sure it will do & whichever little ones who get chance to come & live with you will be very happy….to have a lovely caring family life…good luck with panel…
