Just wondering where everyone is doing their shopping at the moment?
I had been going to Tesco all the time for a while, but was finding because their is so much in the store and its so big, I was ending up spending a fortune in it every week, think last week it was about €180. So this week I decided its back to Aldi and I got a full trolly including a pack of nappies for €108 so I was chuffed with that.
DD is now gone onto cows milk as well, so It will save me a few bob on formala as well (well for a while anyway ).
August 2, 2010 at 8:40 pm #97673JedtKeymasterI mix it up a bit and get the specials where ever I can. I always get the M&S dine in for 1 when its on, thats great value and I go to Supervalu for their specials and sometimes pop into Dunnes but mostly I go to Tesco as its just down the road from me!

I always seem to buy more than i need in Tesco – I buy my meat from Hoeys Butchers in Bryanstown …..
I will go to different places for the Special Offers and the Bargains…
August 3, 2010 at 1:55 pm #97705Taylor5MemberI buy my meat in Hoeys in Bryanstown too, top quality meat… and sometimes out in Lambes in Tullyallen.
My Veg i get in the Bloomfield centre beside curves, lovely veg shop there with parking at the front and back of shop.
i did always shop in Tesco but was spending 160 to 180 a week, was picking up toys and bits and bobs etc…
3 weeks ago i started using Aldi, week 1 70 euro Aldi and 100 in Tescos on bits week 2 69 euro in Aldi and 110 in tesco… Way too much!!! So week 3 made a list and stuck to it other then a few odd bits… 31 euro in Aldi and 34 in Tesco… Dh did the shopping this week, dont know how much he spent but im guessing about 10 euro in Aldi and 10 euro in Tescos 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆August 4, 2010 at 10:06 pm #97785yummymummyMemberAldi for weekly shops (lunches, veg, bread, milk) Tesco for some branded stuff I like and usually ballsgrove butcher for my meat 🙂
I defo shop around more now…………..Like how can dunnes, tesco etc justify its veg prices when aldi’s are soooo cheap and sooo much nicer (IMO) anyway. I spend less every month on my shopping and its great. I tend to stock up on bargains. Like when fish fingers were €2 for 10 i got 4 boxes, dolmio pasta sauces 2 for 2.50. Ive also started to freeze bread as I was throwing so much away, it was such a waste. So we use the frozen bread for toast and usually wraps for lunch. (also invested in a toaster for work for 12e……..so use the frozen bread there too haha)
August 5, 2010 at 11:00 pm #97864YvonneMemberI have been going to Tesco aswell, but spending about €120 each week and yet 2-3 days later there is nothing to eat!!!!
Go to the butchers in Clogherhead for meat, great offers on there!
Tonight I went to Sainsburys, for the first time in ages! Spent £190!!!!! But I needed everything, shower gels, shampoos, nappies, all the cleaning stuff…. the fridge and press and DH’s sweet press lol is packed now, so next week I am planning to go to Aldi for the fruit and veg…. should work out cheaper over the month….August 5, 2010 at 11:07 pm #97868Taylor5MemberI went to Aldi tonight 60 euro… then popped up to Tesco to get 5 things on my list… eh, list went out the window spent 16 euro on a lunch box and a sandwich box for ds, spent 20 euro on t shirts for ds2, 15 euro on books and magazines….. total with the few bits needed 82 euro!!!!!!
I just spend too much in that shop 🙄August 6, 2010 at 5:09 pm #97906sunshineorlaMemberI do weekly shop in Lidl. Aldi annoys me because I am so used to Lidl. Then the bits and pieces that they dont stock I get in Newry every other week. Then in between its Supervalu just becaus the parking is handy in the centre of town.
The eco nappies I used to get in Boots were 10euro and the same ones in Newry are about 6 stg but Sainsbury’s also do an eco own brand nappy for under 5 stg. Thats a big saving. The formula for preemie babies is between 18 and 20 euro here and I get that for 12stg. Its worth the drive for those 2 alone and then usually just get cheesestrings and the toddler snacks there too.August 6, 2010 at 5:38 pm #97908happymumblemumParticipantAldi for main shop then butchers and local shop in Tullyallen for meat, milk and bread.
Haven’t been up North since Xmas…
August 6, 2010 at 7:01 pm #97913Taylor5Memberi have to say i dont like lidl… Aldi im very impressed with, i would be a bit of a brand snob, but if its good enought for my mam and sister then it will do me..
HMM the butcher in tullyallen is brilliant, really good quality and great offersAugust 7, 2010 at 7:58 pm #97921trixiebellParticipantim the same Taylor, much prefer Aldi to Lidl, think their selection and their quality is so much better.
