Memberjust founds NHK WORLD NEWS on sky 516… watched it a bit today and loads of lovely reports for parents finding lost children, 3 oaps being found alive and well in their car. Its shows and talks to the local people on the ground rather then the sensational reports from the likes of sky news… Give you a little bit of hope!
What can we do for the people of Japan, do they need clothes and shoes, do we all give a few euro? If everyone gave 1e 5e, it would all add up….terrible suitaion
Keep them in your prayersMarch 14, 2011 at 8:46 am #111190happymumblemum
ParticipantYes I agree Taylor is there any thing worse than Sky News ..Tsunami Porn…
I hate the way they practically wet themselves with excitement when there is a disaster..

ParticipantSee a 60 year old man was found drifting 9 miles out to sea clinging onto part of a roof 😯 What must have gone through the poor guy’s head until he was found!?

MemberYeah but his wife was swept away 🙁
BBC coverage ok-ish
What is Japan asking for? Do they have an organised aid appeal or anything?

ParticipantOMG I neverheard that about his wife, that’s tragic!!
I’m not sure about relief needs, it seems very complex due to such a vast area and different needs.

MemberI know a rescue team from the UK were sitting in a hanger for hours and hours waiting for transport to affected areas, they said its critical that they get to the sites asap and want to get searching for people…
Okay who do you believe… two reports on skys news (the breaking news links at the bottom of tv)
1) Japan ministry say no further risk of explosion at nuclear plant and no radiation leaks… yet the UK ships have been withdrawn due to picking up low levels and China has reports of low levels too…2) Fears of meltdown as core rods exposed, meltdown CANT be ruled out!!!!
Is it Sky news at its best or the powers that be trying to hide the facts?
Yes the wife was on the roof too, but she got swept away…. he isnt giving up hope of the wife being found alive, Bless him xxxx

MemberWell maybe not Skynews being a bit OTT…… Japanese government have made statement that bottom of the reactor is damaged and looks like a major leak is possible
If the Japanese people needed our prayers since Friday, well they really need them now!! I have ds1 watching the news, i told him its history in the making….. some history!
If there was every a reason not to have nuclear power im afraid sadly this is it…. God Bless all those people and the poor workers in the plant trying to control the suitation xxxxxMarch 15, 2011 at 9:11 am #111247hjs
MemberWith regret, I suspect nuclear is only sustainable way forward of powering the world, unless some serious collective energy conservation measures are put in place globally – depleting natural resources IS a finite action, they WILL be exhausted.
Answer lies somewhere in "cleaning up" nuclear think. Rider – am no expert, but big part of dh job is buying energy for fmcg international food manufacturer so knows a fair bit for his job, and I pick up the crumbs!

MemberIts such a devastating event this nuclear melt down……but really, when you think about it, the Japanese are soooo ahead of the game in every field that if this thing can be fixed it WILL be fixed…..Sky news loves the drama – thats the game they are in – i just watch the headlines now to catch up. I dont want to see a 70 year old man floating on what is left of the roof of his home – its too devastating . My BIL has settled in Japan for the last 6 years – he loves the people, the culture, the work ethic – everything about Japan will see them through this catastrophe…..
