every week i used to bring dd down the park we used to stay there for around and hour or so. i recently noticed that there were older kids down the park older than 12 i didn’t pay much attention to them at first but the next week i went down there was woman holding her 6 year old boy in her arm and him with a busted nose one of the big lads over 12’s tripped him over and he fell head first on the tarmac. then there were younger kids climbing on 1 of the bridges the wobbly one and a couple of the older kids were shaking it and the little ones were crying. a woman said that there there most weeks and the younger kids get very annoyed so does the mammy’s. i wont be bringing dd down there till they go away.

July 24, 2010 at 10:18 pm #97175scole1Memberthat’s awful…..i’d murder them, well have words, but they safety of your child comes first, iot’s awful to think the older ones have nothing better to be doing bar tormenting younger kids
July 24, 2010 at 10:49 pm #97179dittoMembersorry to hear this is happening but thankfully I’ve not experienced it …. but as mine are early risers, I tend to use the park early in the morning when I suspect these teenagers are still in bed !
So let normality return when school is back and the park is to be enjoyed by the little ones again !
July 24, 2010 at 11:00 pm #97180CaliGalMemberCall the Guarda..Isn’t this part of their job?!?! I have the ones in our village on speeddial on my mobile and don’t hesitate in using it…
July 25, 2010 at 11:07 am #97192nickysinglemumMemberthis was just after lunch time i think the woman said she reported them to the guarda . what would the guards do there under 18 give them a warning and thats that then they do it again. i think its disgraceful.
July 25, 2010 at 11:56 am #97193beamsMemberWe use this playground too – but as Ditto says – we would be early morning people also so havent experienced this. The schools going back in September will put a stop to that so maybe try the playground in the mornings and somewhere else in the afternoons 😉
July 25, 2010 at 5:27 pm #97197Taylor5Memberit happened me twice once with girls and the second time with a group of boys… they were about 14 and started to bully my ds1. He was sitting on the roundabout in daydream land and i heard on say "lets get him" they (4 big lads) stood and spun the round about at top speed. My ds who was 4.5 at the time, fell and got a bang on the head and back….
I ran over screaming (leaving ds2 who is 1 to fend for himself) the cheeky fecker told me, relax its a joke we were only pushing him!!! 😈 Eh he is 4! I lost it, i got my two hands and push him on the shoulders and asked "is that funny, tell me when you see the funny side and pick on someone his own size!"
you can be very unlucky at that playground, sometimes Laytown can have older teenagers hanging about tooJuly 25, 2010 at 7:15 pm #97208JedtKeymasterLet your local TD know about it too.
From my experience, Fergus O’Dowd is good at following up on things and he has an office in Drogheda on West St or you can email him through his website or call his office. I’ve always found him good so hopefully he can raise it for you.
Also, might be worth a call or email to Drogheda Leader & Independent and let them do a story on it and raise awareness too.
Bloody awful carry on!
July 25, 2010 at 7:56 pm #97209beamsMemberOMG Taylor that is awful – the cheeky f"kers – pack mentality – you were dead right to go for them – how dare they – your poor little man – i hate hearing stories like this – terrible 👿
July 25, 2010 at 9:39 pm #97217Taylor5Memberi was looking after ds2, so i dont think they knew i was the mammy of ds1… I could have been arrested but i didnt care i was fuming, i knocked yourman clean off his feet 😳
A lovely Polish guy came running over and told them all to leave, think he thought i was going to kill them 😆 😆 😆 No other parent said a word to them…. another day in the same playground a Romanian lady tried to walk out with my buggy 😯
I find morning times are the best down thereJuly 25, 2010 at 11:44 pm #97221nickysinglemumMembergood on ya taylor they get away with to much. when i was younger my mum had a way of finding out everything i was doing when i was teen it was like she had 6th sense or a private detective 😆 i never got away with anything.
July 26, 2010 at 7:55 am #97222happymumblemumParticipantI had incident here too last year..Igot picked on for "staring " at an older girl her and her friends all aged about 15 were harassing me and following me around calling names and being generally horrible..
So any way I went over and got right in the ring leaders face holding her by the coat she nearly shit herself..they left soon after.
Hate that playground any way its depressing.
Don’t mind teenagers hanging round parks after all who didnt do that growing up..its just scumbags I can’t stand.
July 26, 2010 at 9:36 am #97227Taylor5MemberThats what i did that day i went for the ring leader and boy did they shut up quick, but think that had something to do with the over 6ft polish guy build like a brick shit house!!! 😆 😆 😆
The day i was there and that group of teenagers were there i just kept my mouth shut and left the place….
