November 11, 2009 at 5:31 pm #81463AnonymousInactivei missed that, any chance of some of the tips??
November 11, 2009 at 5:36 pm #81464JedtKeymasterAh sure, I had no notice about it myself, they literally rang me while I was in PJ’s play centre with April, this morning and asked me to stay on the line and go on there and then!! I was a mess at the start of it…
I was getting my car serviced at M1 motors this morning and was waiting for it to be returned to me (by the way, they did a great job, they even cleaned & vacuumed it for me, all within 2 hours and a 10% Mumstown discount!!)
Evelyn (standing in for Gerry today) must have thought I was mad when I suggested sharing gifts between children o Christmas morning (Wonder Wagons). Also, instead of buying for all my friends & their children and them for mine, like we normally do, we are instead going to each donate a gift to SVP and then have an afternoon of fun and face painting with a few selection boxes for presents
This way the kids get a good afternoon of fun, with a small gift like a selection box and us parents do not have to buy loads of gifts. Everyone wins; the kids are not getting spoiled and there is no financial pressure on us parents.
I love Christmas and if I had loads of money I would buy lovely gifts for all my family & friends but in the times we are in, we all need to be thrifty this year and it was great of Gerry Ryan show to allow us on to chat about that
Hope it gave some other parents around Ireland good ideas for a happy non expensive Christmas – and hopefully they’ll share them on here!!!
November 11, 2009 at 5:48 pm #81467happymumblemumParticipantI heard it alright, you sounded very well spoken.
Sounded like Evelyn thought you were a bit bonkers alright, somehow I don’t see her kids? sharing a wonder wagon this Xmas.
😆
Kris Kringle is always a good idea where there are loads of kids etc in a family..Don’t really have any more tips as I buy for no one but my dd, dh Mum dadx 2 .
November 11, 2009 at 5:56 pm #81469AnonymousInactivethats a brill idea about giving to the svp instead, thank god for them.
it is really bad that our government has brought us all to our kness and most of us to tears….. 🙁

November 11, 2009 at 8:24 pm #81481CaliGalMemberWOW thanks for the shout out Siobhan! Evelyn was not too keen on sharing a present tho!
I am more inspired than ever to make ours a traditional Christmas this year.
Got the thinking hat on now!
November 11, 2009 at 8:58 pm #81482JedtKeymasterCaligal – you are most welcome, I think the wagons are great. My children loved them when they saw your kids in one and I know they will love the one Santa brings
Yep, Evelyn thought I was mental alright…she may have got me wrong, I was NOT saying my 3 kids will have to share just one wagon, they’ll get other individual gifts too but this is a great one they can all play with and share together.
I remember when I was a child (cue the old fashioned music) we did not have much money but my parents still managed to make Christmas so special and my memories are wonderful. We are kind of back to that way now, with the current financial situation many of us are in.
It just means we have to be very creative this year so anyone with any ideas…do tell!!!
November 11, 2009 at 9:20 pm #81484TotalbabyMemberI heard it and thought u sounded great! Really positive and enthusiastic – its great that there are people like you about, bringing like minded people together. I have seen forums like this in the US but didn’t think there would be one here but its great that there is….
November 11, 2009 at 9:34 pm #81487Taylor5MemberAh I had it on but wasnt really listening to it …. sorry!!!
Im having a very cheap xmas ds1 gun from heatons 12 euro and playdough about 15 euro, thats it 😯 I have stocking fillers and will pick up dvd’s, I will also get him a ben 10 surprise
Ds1 a vtech magic tree 25 euro and some books…. cheap as chips! 😆 😆 😆
If only dh was as easy to buy for, will have to rob a bank at this rate just for him 🙄As for family we only buy for 2 of dh’s brothers (ones who dont have kids) the rest of us are all having a day out on the Santa Steam Train as our Christmas presents to each other. I think there are 23 or us going (both my side and dh’s family) should be fun and our memories will last forever as a 30euro toy wouldnt (the grannies are coming too 🙄 😆 😆 😆 ) So time together is out gift to each other this year and memories of happy Christmases just like when we were kids and it wont cost the earth….. cant wait
