Spraoi is an International Street Theatre and world music festival. Now entering into its 18th year Spraoi is a firm favourite for locals and visitors alike who throng the streets of Waterford for the three-day long street party.
The festival also has a wide and varied music programme promoting both local and international musicians. The two main stages are located in the city on John Roberts Sq. and William Vincent Wallace Plaza, and have platformed such diverse acts as the Royal Drummers of Burundi and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. As night falls a full schedule of indoor music gigs is on offer, and to top it all ALL EVENTS AT SPRAOI ARE FREE!
Spraoi Festival 2010 will kick off at 3pm on Friday, July 30th and feature acts and bands from 11 countries with 8 Irish premieres of new street theatre work. Highlights include Bangditos, from Germany, with their wet and wild show “Uberflus”, French company CIE Joe Sature with their clever, mouth-watering show “Hors Service”, Company Magmanus from Sweden and Indian troupe Kawa Circus, with their beautiful story of an itinerant group of artists from a circus in Rajasthan., blending acrobatics, rhythm and music. On the music front there’ll be The Destroyers from the UK to look forward to, creating a swirling spectacle of sensation and sound. Rueben Richards and his band Soul Train will bring a touch of deep down soul to the event, and old favourite’s Los Albertos return with their blend of ska, funk and rock.
There’s also the Guinness Rhythm Route in the city centre pubs, the Spraoi Festival Club, sprÒg at Garter Lane Arts Centre, the Beat 102, 103 Stage on the Plaza and much much more to look forward to at Spraoi 2010.
