Recently there was a big court case over newsagents selling signed masscards. Apparently it was a scheme developed by some man in the midlands who had an arrangement with a local priest out on the missions. However he got a bit greedy and started selling them wholesale nationwide. The clergy weren’t receiving any details of who they were supposed to be praying for and felt that the MassCards weren’t really doing what they said on the tin, if you know what I mean.
So you shouldn’t be able to buy them in an ordinary shop anymore. If your in Dundalk you can get them direct from the Redemptorist Fathers at€1.50 each and you write in the name of the person to be prayed for in a special ledger and I know the Augustinian Fathers do them in Drogheda the same way, I remember getting some the last time we had a family bereavement.
