Every year my mam, aunt, Nanny and I go away for a night together coming up to Christmas. We sometimes went down the country but the past few years we’ve stayed closer to home and gone to Dundalk & Drogheda. For past few years we stayed at the Crowne Plaza hotel and did our Christmas shopping in the Marshes & Laurence Town Centre.
We went last weekend again and it was lovely. We checked into the hotel at 12 and thenheaded straight to the Marshes. We spent the day there picking up gifts for our families in Penney’s, River Island, Jack Jones, Name it, Mothercare, Dunnes, Easons, New Look etc and grabbed a bite and coffee in Bagel Bar in the food court mid-way through, to keep us going.
Then we went back to the hotel, had a rest & got changed for dinner. We had dinner and a few drinks in the bar and headed to bed. We had interconnecting rooms and had a drink and chat and laugh in our PJ’s. The next morning we had breakfast and then headed for phase 2 of our yearly shopping trip – Drogheda!
Straight to Laurence Town Centre and into M&S, Vero Moda, Pulse and Shaws for a few more bits & bobs for Christmas. Loads of great deals in there at moment. Stuff in Pulse from a Euro for anyone looking for cheap & cheerful items and we got gorgeous candles & crafty gifts that were marked way down in the sale and fab wine glasses too in Shaws.
We used to go to Newry and sometimes Belfast a few years ago but with things the way they are now, we reckon its much better that we shop local and spend our money here and support local jobs. And in all honesty, with the price of petrol and the bad exchange rate, it makes more sense to shop at home.
There are loads of great shops and local businesses we can support by shopping close to home this year and it will mean alot to the economy if we all do our best to buy local. Also, there are loads of bargains around at the moment, so it won’t cost you any more to buy from someone you know.
So if you see a local business that has good value gifts for Christmas – share it on here and let us know about it.
