Hi, My son is 2.5yrs and please god he will be starting school in sept 2011. I am orginally from Dublin so I am looking for some information on the schools in drogheda. There is one right round corner from me but it is only open since this september so its not really well established yet and I would love to send my son to a school with a very good reputation ( of course, like all parents ) Any information on this would be much appreciated. Thank you

I know when my little ones went to St.Brigids it was the nearest to us. I know a girl who was living nearer to another school on the ‘far side’ of the Drogheda (across the river) but she wanted her child to go to the school she went to so she put down her dads address! Children in the immediate catchment area got first preference and then was a waiting list which she knew wouldnt guarantee her a place. I know of someone else who wasnt living in town but put down her mam’s address as the childs address to get the child into the school near her mam’s house as she was minding the child.
I moved out to Clogherhead and once we were buying a house and living in the village our children were more or less guaranteed a place in the school But if we were living in town the principal couldn’t guarantee us a place for the September if we were not living in the village, would depend on demand and numbers.

there are lots of schools and good ones too.. i’ve not got kids in school yet but next year my ds will be starting school…..we live in mornington so different area i suppose, but we have our ds down for le cheile and the gaelscoil…both have similar ethos and also sized classes….
as said above your child will qualify for the school in your catchment area…..so check what your nearest school is…
if you post upthe area where you live some mom’s heremaybe able to advise of schools near you…hth but if you don’t have child’s name down really you should be putting name down as soon as….

I live in Aston Village. I know your right that I need to get his name down asap. His cousin lives on the other side of drogheda and my sis and I arehoping to get them into the same school. I hope this can be done. I have heard of Le Cheile but I think that is too far for us. We hope to get their names down in a couple of schools and then choose one closer to the time, thanksOctober 25, 2009 at 11:18 am #80237scole1Memberi think there’s a le cheile – educate together which is new near ya….has good reports…..
October 25, 2009 at 9:03 pm #80270Taylor5MemberThe new school beside you has the very same ethos as le Cheile, good luck with your choice
October 26, 2009 at 1:05 pm #80296AnonymousInactiveYes, Aston Village Educate Together is right beside you. Its a brand new school too so at least there will be enough room and new equipment. I’d definately check out the one beside you first.
Might be hard to get two children who are cousins into the same school if they both live on different sides of town. The catchment areas might be very different. Maybe ring the schools you are thinking of and see if you are in the catchment area, explain about the cousin and see what the principal thinks.
Good luck.

There are children in Le Cheile from Julianstown, Laytown, Bettystown and the far side of Drogheda, such as Riverbank, Aston Village etc.

As far as I underdstand it he enroloment policy is siblings first (this year they took in 28 children and 20 were siblings so only 8 places left), and after that they go by age and if the family is Irish speaking. Most of the children in the school are five or nearly five when they start.
There is no waiting list, they have an enrollment day once a year, the enrollment day for the junior infant class of 2010 will take place on Tuesday 20th January between 2 and 6 o’clock. Parents need to bring their child’s birth certificate and PPS number.
