Can acupuncture help to regulate an irregular menstrual cycle?

October 26, 2010 at 10:10 pm #103298Taylor5MemberGood question, can it help other menstrual problems? Conditions like Endometriosis? Since the birth of my last child my condition has gotten so bad that my doctor thinks a hysterectomy would be the Ave to go down when i "finished using it"
im was googling looking for treatments or anything that can help…. also does it help PMT?October 27, 2010 at 8:25 am #103309Maria30MemberAcupuncture will definitely help with PMT and I m sure Mark will be able to advise you about menstrual cycles and endometriosis.

October 27, 2010 at 9:51 am #103315Mark AcuMemberHi Sabbi thank you for your question and Taylor too. Maria thank you for your comment and a massive well done to you too as you have worked very hard in last few months on making the changes happen.
Firstly on the menstrual cycle issues the short answer is YES you it can help with all sorts of menstrual problems. As I have written before the literal translation of womb in Chinese is “child’s palace”. The menstrual cycle and related symptoms detail the condition of the “palace” ie is it cold, hot, damp etc. In diagnosis I would look at the mental and physical symptoms of the cycle and that includes Ovulation signs.
Since I have started working with Acupuncture ladies all I can say is thank the lord I am a man. If men had periods the world would end honestly. Some women really suffer with awful symptoms. With Acupuncture treatment the improvements are usually very fast and lasting. Many ladies come into my practice with other conditions like IBS and as a matter of diagnosis I would ask about their Menstrual Cycle. I have heard some ladies with awful symptoms which the medical world ie Docs and their Gynaecologists know about and have told them they are normal and carry on. It is NOT the case with Chinese Medicine the condition can be very successfully treated.
PMT is one of those conditions which many ladies suffer with and the symptoms range from light to crazy lady once a month. Again it is easily treated. Within one menstrual cycle I would be looking for changes for the better.
Endometriosis is a slightly different condition. As the medical cause is largely unknown it is a more difficult condition to treat in western medicine. In Chinese Medicine it is looked at differently and the condition can be helped. However if there are growths or masses present Acupuncture cannot alter the structure of the body. Within the condition there are many many types and varying levels of symptoms again Chinese Medicine works with the whole body as one unit. Scientific studies are suggesting that endometriosis is a neuro-immuno-endocrine related disease. Acupuncture can improve the functioning of the immune system and increase the flow of energy through the meridians, or energy pathways, in the body. Acupuncture can also stimulate the nervous system to release hormones, and is very effective at relieving pain. For these reasons, acupuncture is a viable and effective treatment modality for dealing with endometriosis.
For any of the above conditions it is not just Acupuncture treatment which I use to help you. I will give advise on your diet which makes a huge difference in the symptoms. I will also advise on using heat packs at certain times of the month to help with symptoms. Within the scope of practice there are several avenues to look at in helping the body deal more easily with the whole menstrual cycle Chinese Medicine looks at all of them as one unit and likewise at the body as one whole unit.
Ladies I hope this has answered some of your questions and please feel free to ask if you have any more concerns.
Alternatively you cam log onto my web site and there are case studies there or give me a call

November 1, 2010 at 10:39 pm #103628Taylor5MemberWow that makes very very intresting reading… i also suffer from IBS but my doctor is looking at maybe it could be Crohn’s Disease, after gettng test done years ago i was asked if crohns was in the family, but it has come to light that an Aunt has crohns disease.
Think it might be worth a visit, Maria is doing so well will have to take a leaf out of her book….
would this also help with a fear of flying?November 2, 2010 at 4:40 pm #103675Mark AcuMemberTaylor I would be delighted to chat to you when you would like to 🙂
With the fear of flying there is a technique using Ear Acupuncture. The Chinese view the Ear in a similar light to that of Reflexology. The entire body can be treated using ear points. I use ear seeds after the treatment. They are small square plasters with tiny magnetic balls attached. I place them on several areas of the ear and they work on stimulating the point through the magnet. They can stay in the ear for up to a week. In your case for a fear of flying if you were in the airport heading off you could press the points for a extra kick.
Again it is treating the mind as part of the whole body.
Take care
