Edgewater College in Drogheda looks forward to welcoming large numbers of International students from all over the globe to the banks of the river Boyne to learn English this summer.

Danielle Wall – Marketing Co-ordinator with Edgewater College says “we are delighted to be welcoming so many students to Drogheda this Summer, it will be a greatboost for the towns economy”. We have students from all over the world, many of whom have never been to Ireland before, so it is a very exciting time for them too. We ensure that the students get to see as much of the local attractions as possible and get the opportunity to understand our culture and heritage.

We are delighted to have the Basque Scholarship students back again for the fourth summer in a row, these are students who have been awarded a scholarship for doing well at school – not just academically but in other areas such as arts, sports, music etc. We get a lot of students from the Basque region in the north of Spain, they really love it here in Drogheda.

We also have groups from other parts of Spain, Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona etc – lets hope they bring the sun with them! Last year was great because they were here when the world cup was on, so there was lots of excitement. We will also have about 100 teachers from Spain coming over for a teacher of English refresher course.

We are also thrilled to be welcoming back a group of UAE (United Arab Emirates) University students. Last year was our first partnership with the UAE University – the oldest of the three government-sponsored institutions of higher learning in the United Arab Emirates. Our programme was such a success last year that the numbers of students from the University has doubled for this summer. The Emirati students loved every minute of their time in Drogheda.

We have also won 2 other contracts from institutions in the UAE – 1 in Dubai and 1 in Al Ain, which is great news!

This is also our first year working with a Russian school in Moscow, which will send us a large group of students during July. A group of Franciscan friars from various parts of the world including Hungary, Italy and Mexico who will be staying at Gormonston College will also be attending English Language classes at the College.

Many of the Italian, French, German and Saudi students who have been here before coming back this summer…

These students get to live with host families in the Drogheda area- which is probably the most important part of their programme. We are very lucky to have a great selection of friendly welcoming host families who welcome the students into their home like a family member. These students play a huge part in the towns economy and tourism so it is essential that they enjoy themselves and come back again and again.
