thinking about this as a way of overcoming severe claustrophobia. I have to have some medical stuff done that means I have to get over this as it will be a daily process for a few weeks. Have tried many things in the past. I couldn’t have an mri done while awake or even after taking a tablet to supposedly relax me. I am very very claustrophic. Even the idea of sitting in the back seat of a car that doesnt have doors in the back would be a no go for me. My biggest fear is for machines that work by coming close to your face as I feel I cant breathe and my body goes into the shakes. Just wondering if anyone has tried hypnotherapy for fears/phobias and the outcomes. thanks

Hypnotherapy has worked for me for giving birth, I had a terrible first birth, it was really traumatic (stirrups, vacuum, episiotomy, forceps, baby did not cry when he came out, I got an infection where they did not stitch my episiotomy properly) basically, it was horrific. I was terrified of giving birth again after this and I used hypnotherapy to help me and it was amazing – I ended up having two home births thanks to hypnotherapy so I would say it is worth a go.

Tracy Donegan was the person who helped me and I think she specialises in birth related hypnotherapy but she can probably recommend someone for you to see if she cannot look after you. Her phone number is +353870572500 and email tracydonegan@doulaireland.com

HTH and best of luck getting sorted, I have a touch of claustrophobia from an incident when I was 12 and was trapped against my will and while it does not affect me too much it is awful if I get stuck somewhere or if someone is pushing against me or standing over me – while mine is not a severe case, I can empathize with how you feel, it must be terrifying for you.

I hope you can get some help to over come it or at least help you deal with it a little better. xx
