Im not posting this to upset anyone but if my feeling on this case do upset i apoligise in advance.
I dont buy the Sunday World but got it this week as a bit on the Eammon Lillis case, while reading the paper there was a 2 page spread on a child abuse case in Donegal.
The girl in question was 13 at the time and she had full sex with over 20 men from the area in the space of 12 months or more!!!!
Some of the guys were 19 at the time and they claimed she told them she was 17 when they had intercourse. Some were as old as 25 or older, who were married with kids.
All or most of these men have been handed down prison terms and on the sex offenders register for 10years
Oh forgot to say the 13 year old kept a diary of all her sexual activity over the 12 months….she thought the men loved her and not just wanting sex off her.Now this is the bit that might offend….. surely to God this Girl has to accept some of the blame? If it was a one off case where someone who was over 18 had sex with a girl thinking she was 16 or older, but SHE had sex with OVER 20 men/boys. Many young girls look way older with makeup and clothes, i do feel sorry for thelads that where only in there teens, the older ones not so sorry!!!!
I know by the law she was only a child but come one, if you act like a slapper you are a slapper!!!! She had sex with over 20 men, im shocked
Where were her Parents when all this was going on? I know this law is there to protect teens from older men, but think this case they needed to look at the actions of this young girl.
do men need to ask for ID before having sex with a girl… that could be my son in a few years, how can they call a 19 who thought he was having sex with a 17 year old a pedo and 10 years on sex offenders list and a prison term
I dont have an girls, maybe i’d feel different if i didJune 22, 2010 at 2:16 pm #95923happymumblemumParticipantHave to agree Taylor..I think at 13 she knew exactly what she was doing…As for the fellas..well the young ones you can hardly blame them but the older ones mmmm thats a grey area, you would like to hope a 30 year old man could tell a13 year old girl from a 18 year old??? Even with make up…..
Cry for help from this young girl probably so…bad background??Starved of attention..Father figure issues…who knows…
June 22, 2010 at 3:40 pm #95928mammycoolParticipantThe whole issue is very vague in the law. If a 14yr old boy has sex with a 15yr old girl, he can be convicted of statutory rape. She is a minor and therefore, whether or not she knows what she is doing, the law does not think that she has the maturity to make this decision. He is also a minor and this is disregarded
If the woman is 18, then she would be convicted, because the boy is a minor. A he would not then be the sex offender – very strange!!!!!
I do not think a 13 yr old girl should be out and about with the freedom to sleep about. I don’t know when they get a bit of sense but kids of 10 / 11 can still be a bit daft, so maybe 13 is still very naive and immature. Perhaps she has some sort of mental issues – because you would hope that at that stage, the poor girl would have enough sense to know that these men do not love her.
For the men, I reckon, if you have to ask her age, then you obviously know that she is too young – and keep it in your pants.
I have a little girl and a little boy. I hope to teach both some good morals. Kids will try to experiment – it’s up to the adults to control them. If, when my little girl turns 13, there are any 19 yr olds hanging about, they will be drop kicked as far as possible!!!

But I think that this new law brought in a few years ago is just beyond ridiculous and I think that each case brought to court should be judged on the facts surrounding not just a law passed. The difference in a 13 yr old girl having sex with a 14 yr old boy or 15&16 etc compared to a 13 yr old or 15yr old with a 20 yr old man is incomparable.
While teenagers experiment (please god mine isn’t and won’t for another while!) Older men should have more sense. Girls always want to look older and while sometimes it is hard for men to know their exact age, they should know to be wary, if a girl looks about 20 she’s probaly 16!
With this girl, I think the fact that she made a diary of her conquests speaks volumes and whilst the married men with kids etc should have known better the teenage boys are really unfairly judged!
There is a vast difference in two teenagers who think they are in love and a paedophile seducing a minor and the same ruling should not apply for both.
There was a case last year of a young couple in which the girl was begging the court to let him off because they were in "love" but because they were caught by a garda in the act and it was out of their hands no parents objecting both consenting, both literally on the turning point of maturity and him with a 10 year sex offenders listing, ridiculous!
June 22, 2010 at 5:23 pm #95938yummymummyMemberIsnt it called something like the romeo and juliet law or something ( or its just that its commonly known as that)
I read about it myself too and altho it was a bit upsetting I totally agree that she should take some of the blame……keeping logs of it all i mean whats that about?? Obviously that goes to show it was consentual, the age of the guys really shouldnt come into play.
Women go mad for equal rights and the like and then when something like this happens its utterly laughable that the guys get sentenced and the girls get to go scott free.
Wasnt there another case last year where a young fella was put on the sex offenders list for having sex with a minor even though he was a minor too, think he was 17 and she was 15 at the time and he went to the high court to get it overruled and he lost. Its a joke.

Regardless of her actions she is still so much a child in the eyes of the law and rightly so. No 13yr old child should have to fend for themselves and look after their own welfare. What is her ‘normal’? Does she think its ‘normal’ behaviour to sleep with so many older men at her age and if so what has contributed to this view of life.
The legal age of consent for sex in Ireland is 17 but many people, adults and kids alike, don’t realise its a criminal offence to have consenting sex at 16. They think because they consent its okay. It is awful if a 16yr old boy is found guilty of rape even if there was consent. But the law is there. Some may argue that if there is consent then it shouldn’t be upheld as rape. At the end of the day they are still minors and there are many laws in place to protect minors. Legal age to buy alcohol is 18, legal age to smoke or buy cigerates is 17 etc. However, I would agree that the world ‘rape’ would suggest to most people there was no consent….maybe a new word to better describe the true circumstances.
I don’t think this girl should be held partly responsible but I do think whoever her parents / guardians are should be at least questioned by someone on how a 13yr old girl ends up in a situation like this. I do believe there will always be men wanting to believe a young girl is older……predators are out there…..as we say there are the ‘normal’ people we may pass in the street but who will take advantage of a young girl who is vulnerable. However, they are the adults and should take adult responsibility. They know the consequences of sex with a minor. If in any doubt over her age they should steer well clear. Most responsible men would.
An interesting article in the irish times on the whole age and consent thing. Its only males that can get prosecuted.

I do think its very very sad that nobody was looking out for this child, yes think her parents should come to task over her carry on… What is normal for her could be this type of carry on at home, a cry for help, some bold behaviour to get attention etc. Did she want to get pregnant? Oh forgot to mention that she kept the diary of who she slept with so if she got pregnant she would know who the father was! 😯 😯 😯 Does that sound like an innocent 13 year old? Didnt even know what sex was at 13… ken and barbie didnt have any bits 😆 😆 😆
She is now 20 and in a loving relationship of 2 years…. think there is something very strange going on behind the scenes and this law is stupid and its sexist, if it was a minor women getting charged or on sex offenders list there would be uproar!!! Think it should be case by case, most 13 wouldnt have a clue and want nothing more then a kiss…this girl and her diary was one clever cookie!!!
She said she is a victim of child abuse 😯 HELLO!!!! Once is child abuse and rape! If you need a diary…… need i say more?
If this is the law then the law is an ass!!!June 22, 2010 at 7:15 pm #95954yummymummyMemberTo me this whole thing makes a mokery out of the word rape!!
