January 12, 2010 at 1:11 pm #85879AnneMemberHi Superminder
Im embarressed to say 14 in some sizes or 16, and whats killing me is my 2 sister in-laws are going to the same dance, they both bought Fab Karen Millen dresses and they are size 8 and size 10!!! Beside them Im the fat sister in law…………… 😳
Regards
AnneJanuary 12, 2010 at 1:16 pm #85880happymumblemumParticipantWhy would you be embarassed to say size 14-16? That is the average size for U.K and Irish women.
I am sure you will look fab…
Size isn’t everything beauty comes from within.
If you find some confidence in yourself you will be the most beautiful person in that room no matter if you went in rags

Other than that Littlewoods have loads of lovely long dresses, not sure of the delivery times though and last option Modern Fashions in Dundalk have a sale going in their Formal Wear – down with the bridal not in the main shop €125.00 got a lovely one for my daughter for the Strauss Ball last minute as well.
Oh just thought of another Rennaissance also in Dundlak hire out formal gowns. Look it up in Golden pages under Bridal also.
January 12, 2010 at 2:29 pm #85893JedtKeymasterAnne,
I’d much rather be a 14 than a size 8, you’ve got the womanly curves going for you!!!
If you like, a few of us are going to be at the hotel friday morning for the parent & baby swim and we could bring some dresses with us and you could pick one to borrow?
I have a lovely Marc O’Neill, full length, really flattering dress, size 14. I bought it back when I had money! Its really beautiful and it would be great to see someone get the use of it
Also, you could go to Savida in Dunnes and accessorize a dress to make it look different. You could get a corsage or some jewellery sewn on to it? Pumbainga does beautiful pieces, maybe she could russle something up for you?
Good luck – let us know what you get, no matter what it is, no doubt you’ll look fab. Be proud of your curves girl, women are meant to have bums and tums!!!
P.s. On the make-up side of things, Fuschia in Scotch Hall have a sale at the moment and are doing fab eyeshadows and glitter for eyes, a bit of sparkle can do a lot for an outfit too.
Good luck and happy shopping!
January 12, 2010 at 5:03 pm #85910AnneMemberThanks so much ladies for your help and advice, im working Friday so cant get to Drogheda, but thank you very much Sabbi for your offer, its very kind of you!!
My dresses arrived today from ASOS, and as the saying goes " You pay peanuts, you get monkeys"! They are horrible, horrible on, terrible quality…….. 😥
Il try and get to shops tomorrow, depending on the roads

January 12, 2010 at 5:58 pm #85911yummymummyMemberAnne I hope you get something for your night out!!!
I have to agree with ya on ASOS tho, there quality is terrible. DP all the way if you are buying online and if you sign up to their newsletter you usually get emails with discount codes…….and its soooo much cheaper than buying in the shops.
Good lcuk with the hunt!!!

Julie from Sytlefish is a fashion expert, I’ve asked her to come up with some ideas for you – thats her area of expertise.
You can check out her ad on here, ‘Stylefish’. Could be worth getting some advice from someone who knows what they’re talking about!
Good luck!

AnneJanuary 14, 2010 at 10:14 am #86106Style FishMemberHi Anne,
I am sorry I am only seeing this now as it is close to the date so I hope you have had some luck…
There are some High Street Stores I would check out as follows as they have great Black numbers right now…warehouse (lots of sparkles!), French connection, Debenhams, Arnotts, Monsoon.
In terms of boutiques Diffusion in Clontarf have a Fan Black 50’s style Prom Dress (it’s pricey) but a great shape, nips you in at the waist, has gorgeous wide off the shoulder straps and is quite full at the bottom. Great to make the most of all our curves! Does it have to be black? Purple is a great alternative to black this season & is just as flattering in deep plum shades.
Remember, the key to purchasing any dress is to buy the best possible shape for you to make you feel confident and look fabulous. That does not mean it has to be the most expensiveoption. It is all about how you style it. So you could keep it simple (or perhaps use a dress you already have that you love) and buy a funky ethnic headpiece or flower detail for your hair, add some dramatic black gloves & check out topshop or some local boutiques for that something ‘different’ in jewellery or shoes to really make it stand out. Being stylish is really about being unique!
Hope this helps & most importantly enjoy the night & p.s. always remember that style = comfort, the two words should not work in opposition no matter what we are led to believe!

January 14, 2010 at 1:58 pm #86134AnneMemberHi Style Fish
Thank you so much for your advice, and taking time out to send the message.
But my absolute Darling Son who’s only 13, saw how upset I was about not been able to get anything and he told me " I looked the most gorgeous, on the nite of my 40th"! and I had a very simple black dress on that only cost €30 , but as you said Style Fish it was the cut and shape of it, that made it look lovely, So am not even going to look anymore now, Im going to get a lovely necklace to spruce it up………………….and get my son a small treat for been my gem!
Thank you all ladies for helping me
Kind Regards
