July 2, 2010 at 7:51 pm #96347JedtKeymasterHi Moonflower,
There is a teenage book club at Waterstone’s and a teenage disco in Bettystown Court Hotel. Perhaps, she could go to those and hopefully make some friends there?
We had a mumstown get together at the Marshes in Dundalk yesterday and a few teens came with their mums and smaller brothers & sisters because they are off school and I guess they had to come along! So maybe come to some of the Mumstown events and she might meet someone her own age.
Maybe if you’re free next Tuesday you could come along to the Bagel bar in Laurence Town Centre in the morning or Scotch Hall in the afternoon.
There was also a teenage group that got together at Parish Hall in Julianstown, if you contact the church there, they may be able to help give you some information on that.
Hope that helps. x
July 2, 2010 at 9:38 pm #96359MoonflowerMemberthanks sabbi, that was the thing we didnt know what she would be like until we met her and she seems a mature sixteen but in a nice way, so think it would be good for her to have some friends her own age during her stay…when is the book club on at waterstones??
July 2, 2010 at 10:41 pm #96363mabsMemberHi,
I am in Stamullen and I also have a 15 year old student arriving this weekend on a total immersion homestay for two weeks. I was thinking of bringing her to Drogheda on Tuesday, show her the town and drop in to either Bagel Bar or Scotch Hall. I could also be down around Bettystown/Laytown area at playground or beach with the children one of the days if you would like to arrange for them to meet up.
MJuly 2, 2010 at 10:55 pm #96364meathmamofourMembermy neighbor has a spanish female student staying with her – bettystown!
July 3, 2010 at 9:44 am #96367MoonflowerMemberoh that would be brilliant…our student is total immersion as well..and its great but they do need some time with people their own age i feel..be great if we could arrange some meet ups..our student has just gone out for a run now & i feel bit sad for her as its her first day away..so wil be great when she gets back to tell her we may found some friends for her..
taking her to bellewstown races tonight 🙄 going to take her to newgrange & day trip to dublin & camping in wicklow next weekend…any other suggestions very welcome…
July 3, 2010 at 10:05 am #96368MoonflowerMemberoh and just found out about a horseriding trek centre in dundalk..hoping to arrange this for her…so if anyone else had a student who is alsointerested in horseriding i could take them together..23 euro per hour lesson or 35 for trek…not too bad price ???
July 3, 2010 at 3:47 pm #96372mabsMemberSounds like she is going to have a great time. I was thinking of Newgrange as well and also going to summer sensational festival in temple bar next Sunday, and have tickets for open air screening of Book of Kells in Meeting House Square on the Saturday night (all free by the way) although I don’t really like the city at night so will have to think about the last one. Oh and for Much Ado About Nothing in Ardgillan on Friday 16th (€20 for family ticket). Probably also have a trip into Dublin to visit all the sights and a couple of picnic days out in Ardgillan and Newbridge House. She is interested in places of interest music and theatre so hope that will tick all the boxes.

July 12, 2010 at 4:33 pm #96652HappymammyMemberHi Girls
I have two girls, one is spanish and one is french, both 14 and would love to have other pals. I cant really afford to be paying onto places with my two children aswell throughout the week but i know if there was a group meet up they could do something together like a day up in Carlingford, or a trip up to the Zoo something like that. Sure let me know, i can spin them over the wherever you are. Also, did someone mention a teenage disco? Thanks 😀
July 13, 2010 at 8:06 am #96673MoonflowerMemberHi,
i cant believe how quick the time has gone by now, Happymammy…yes next year if we took another student like you i think we would ask to have two to stay as at least they are company for each other…
i think we are sorted now for rest of week she goes home fri..may go to carlingford & to newbridge house this week but tend to go with her as she seems to like to spend time with us and not so much other students?? think this is quite common as they get that bit older but she did meet up with another lovely girl & they are going out today together..
if we do same next year will be on here earlier as has been great to get in touch with other host families…
July 14, 2010 at 10:10 pm #96782hjsMemberYes Moonflower, if u would pm me with hoe trek centre, would be great, ta a mill! 😀
