Hi there,
Does anyone know where I can buy a formal dress for a black tie event? I would only wear this dress once – so do not want to spend a lot. I have been looking at ebay and amazon and there are great deals but would like somewhere that I could actually try on the dresses.
I see coast have a few on sale – limited sizes!!
February 15, 2013 at 4:23 pm #126887JedtKeymasterDid you try New Look? I was in the one in Marshes last week and they have loads of dresses on sale, some of them are quite dressy.
there was also a sale rail in Heaven Boutique, up beside Penney’s and they had some dresses down to a fiver and some of the stuff in there is very glam.
Dorothy Perkins does some nice structured dresses too and you can dress them up with a fascinator or fancy shoes for a black tie event
Hope some of that helps – happy shopping!!

February 15, 2013 at 11:09 pm #126910dervyMemberI know you said you would like to try on the dress, but there a page on Facebook: Glam Gúna’s that sell formal dresses quite cheap, they sell bridesmaids dresses and other full length dresses. Very reasonable, they are in Swords, it shouldn’t be too much hassle to send it back if you don’t like it.

February 20, 2013 at 12:46 pm #126968mammycoolParticipantThanks for all the replies. I did try some on in Coast and Monsoon yesterday – and the sizes are massively different!! I now know the style I want – which is half the battle!!
I might have a look at that place in Swords. I don’t know Dundalk but might take a trip up anyway.

It’s called Covet, they’re based in the Powerscourt Centre. Great if you know you wont wear it again! They have a facebook page where you can see some of their stuff before you make the trip up

February 21, 2013 at 5:26 pm #126990pookie2MemberOh yeah! Good idea, Libby! If you are a S / 10 ish, I have some lovely ones – and with my bump I will not be wearing them any time soon. Mostly purchased for weddings etc. Buzz if around Dundalk. More than welcome to have a peep. No pressure. None are black, though. I like colour!
February 21, 2013 at 8:41 pm #126997libby1ParticipantI have size 20 or 22 …If u want to borrow…
February 21, 2013 at 8:55 pm #126998mammycoolParticipantThanks for the offers ladies but I am a size 14 currently working on getting back to a size 12!!!!
February 22, 2013 at 6:31 am #127003pookie2MemberWorth a shot – I’ve only worn some of them a couple of times (family weddings) & really pretty, but with a houseful of small kids I just don’t do the kind of socialising I used to. Plus, with four (nearly) kids in six years my belly & boobs have been constantly on the move for the last while!
Good luck with the hunt!
