The Relay For Life Dundalk organising committee is delighted to announce that Relay For Life 2010 is up and running and will take place from Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th October at The Youth Development Centre at Oriel Park, Dundalk. For the second year running, the people of Dundalk are joining forces with the Irish Cancer Society to host the deeply moving and uplifting 24-hour community event with the role of raising awareness of cancer in the community.

Relay For Life will kick off with a very special Survivors’ Lap of Honour. The Survivors’ Lap is an inspirational start to the event where survivors of all ages are invited to begin the Relay by walking the first lap of the course, cheered on by family, friends and teams from the community who have come together to celebrate their achievements.
Another very moving experience during the Relay is the Candle of Hope ceremony that takes place later in the evening when darkness begins to fall. Before the event everyone in the community is invited to dedicate a Candle of Hope to someone they know who has been touched by cancer. As the evening approaches, the candles are set around the track and lit by participants. Those who have dedicated candles then join the Relay for this special ceremony as they remember those lost to cancer and those currently going through a cancer journey

Thanks for posting Yvonne – is there anything we can do to help out?

It is a lovely event Sabbi, I won’t be able to go this year as I am away which is a pity.
You can contact Andy at 086 0564992 for further information, he is involved with the organisation of it…

Another thing is that they had bouncy castles and some stalls and a tarot card reader there last year, so there is plenty to do aswell with the kiddies!
