Hi Folks, Just in case anyone is thinking about driving later, I know it can be hard to judge beyond some roads, I left Wheaton Hall about 11.15 with the intention of bringing my ds to a gastro specialist in eccles st. We only got as far as the small roundabout before the Europa and skidded (almost into the railings!). It’s not getting any better out there, and from past experience, I reckon a lot of cars will be abandoned and people left to walk miles, so if you don’t have to go out (and even if you do, possibly make a phone call!) stock up any essentials from the local shops and stay put! If you do make a short trip and feel yourself skidding, don’t react by turning the wheel the opposite way, it can produce more of a skid. Usually better to turn it towards the direction you are skidding into and softly pump the break (unless you have abs, it will do it for you!) Be safe!! :?

I agree its hard to do but you have to ster into the skid to get out of it… where you want to turn the opposite direction, thank god for abs brakes, i remember the old pump style

Dh left here at 6.30pm to get the the airport, he sent me a text at 7.40pm to say her was turning back… arrived home at 8pm He didnt even make to Julienstown so turned back, but still took nearly 2 hours
Dont go out if you dont have too….. well other then to play in the snow

The best way to get out of Drogheda, is the motorway via the toll bridge. Dont bother heading anywhere near julianstown.

My dh walked to train this morning & got to work that way. Was a bit delayed but grand.

Very bad from Drogheda to Clogherhead. My poor mum had a bad skid at the little roundabout in Termonfeckin and only crawling at the time. Car ended up sideways on the road and only she was going so slow the wheel hit the footpath rather than mounted it. I was in the car with her heading out of Clogherhead and roads icy. Some slush but a lot of shiny hard ice. I’m a confident driver but its the car that looses control and what can you do…

Girls i was watching a numpty of a neighbour, he is a terrible driver on a good day, very rude on the road… he drives a rearwheel drive merc, well he went to take his car out, he had his foot to the floor and rear wheels going 90 and not moving an inch… well an inch forward that is, he was going side to side all over the place… 2.5 hours later he came back, i told dh to watch his driving, it ended up the 4 of us in the living room window for 15 min!!!!!! Watching him skidding all over the place just to get into his drive, if he took off he was into the front of his house 😯 The kids were all cracking up and pelting him with snowballs 😆 😆 😆 😆

Some feckin idots on the road!!!!

Hope you got there and back okay Mary, as I was walking out of Wheaton Hall yesterday, a car turned in and accelerated quite quick (even though it was blatantly obvious he was now on compressed ice!!) I gestured for him to slow down a bit which he ignored and as he touched his breaks to turn into the shops, his car spun to the right completely out of control! Just as well there wasn’t a child where he came to a halt! Even if you have never driven on ice before, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that you need to slow down! 😕

a girl in the chemist today was telling me a young guy beeped at her and over took her, she was doing 25mph in a 30 zone!!! Idots….
Ds1 ran into me today, he said "mammy that numpty is taking his car out again!" Well it was classic, we sat in the window for nearly an hour laughing at him…. he ended up having to leave his car stuck in another neighbours drive.
im not joking he was reversing down the hill, then taking off with his foot to the floor, he was skidding left to right up the hill…. i think this man needs a few things after the snow, new tyres and driving lessons 😆 😆 😆 A few of the Russian neighbours went out and drove his car after digging it out of the neighbours garden 😆 😆 😆
Who needs tv on snow days

We walked to Southgate with the kids getting towed along on the boogie boards, brilliant mode of transport

Hope this isn’t too late but if anyone is going from the Drogheda retail park (the one with Aldi, homebase, tk maxx etc.) to Tesco, don’t go the back way, the road is treacherous, better to go the long way around!

I had to drive to Newbridge for work today – absolute hell. You would not believe the lunatics on the roads. I got as far as the M2, then came to a standstill. It was down to one lane. Most cars were driving slowly and safely up this lane. Then, some fools decided to overtake everyone, driving on the grass verge. I saw another, do a u-turn and drive back down the wrong way. Also, there was a truck, which appeared to be broken down, sticking across the road – another had stopped to help and left his truck crossways on the road – hence the delays.

Is it any wonder we have so many fatal accidents – there are fools out there that should never have a licence!!!!!!!
