DISNEY STORE TO BRING CHRISTMAS JOY TO CHILDREN THROUGHOUT IRELAND WITH CHARITY CAMPAIGN

Grafton Street’s Disney Store partners with Children in Hospital, Ireland to donate soft toys

Disney Store has launched its annual ‘Share in the Magic’ charity campaign, which invites families across the UK and Ireland to post their own Letter to Santa at their local Disney Store or online at disneystore.co.uk and do something very special for local Children’s charities at the same time. In Ireland, for every letter that is posted in-store or online, the Disney Store on Dublin’s Grafton Street will donate a soft toy to children through Children in Hospital Ireland.

Last night saw the official launch for Dublin where celebrities such as Sybil Mulcahy, Lisa Fitzpatrick and Sarah McGovern brought their children along to the Grafton Street Store to write their own letters to Santa.

Running through to Christmas, there are a number of ways in which members of the public can join in this fun and get involved in the campaign:

    • The Grafton Street store will be running a series of fun letter writing workshops where staff members will be on hand to help children write a letter that can then be posted in a special magical postbox located within the store.
    • Children can also bring a letter they have written at home and post it in a special magical postbox in their local Disney Store.
    • For those families that want to take part but may not be able to visit their local store, they can visit disneystore.co.uk/Christmas. Here, a letter can be created and posted virtually with each participant receiving a special video message from Mickey Mouse and friends!

This is the fifth year that Disney Store has run the ‘Share in the Magic’ campaign to support local children’s charities at Christmas time, and to date, has donated over 60,000 toys to charities throughout the UK and the rest of Europe. This year, Disney Store will donate a further 15,000 soft toys to the 40 children’s charities that have been nominated across the UK and Ireland, each of whom work in close collaboration with their local Disney Store.

The national campaign launched last week with a star studded event at Disney Store on Oxford Street. Attendees included included Denise Van Outen, Michelle Heaton and Tom Fletcher from McFly who joined in the fun by writing their own letter to Santa.

Graham Burridge, Managing Director, Disney Store Europe, said: “Each of our stores has a special relationship with a variety of local children’s charities that they work with closely throughout the year. Our annual ‘Share in the Magic’ Christmas campaign is extra special as it encourages everyone to get involved and experience some of the Disney magic. We are always delighted at the response from the public to help support our charity campaign and hope that the public will bring their letter to Santa into our stores again this year and help us bring some magic and joy to thousands of children this Christmas”

Catherine Clifford, Volunteer Coordinator from Children in Hospital Ireland, said “We are delighted to be part of this wonderful campaign from Disney. We have a fantastic relationship with the staff working at the Disney Store on Grafton Street and the children and families of Children in Hospital Ireland will really appreciate this special gift and gesture at Christmas. Children in Ireland is a volunteer-based programme, reaching out to sick children and their families. The organisation recruits, trains and vets volunteers from all around the country who provide play and happiness to sick children in their local hospitals. It will be fantastic to be able to provide these children with an uplifting gift from Disney this Christmas.”

The ‘Share in the Magic’ campaign is one of a number of fun and free family activities that take place throughout the year in Disney Stores. These activities help provide special and memorable moments and experiences for families to share. Details of this activity and other events taking place in local Disney Stores can be found here:

In 2012, Disney contributed more than $292 million in financial resources, product donation and in-kind support to bring positive, lasting change to children and families in need around the world. The Company in also provides financial and administrative support for Disney VoluntEARS, our employee volunteerism programme. Since 1983, Disney employees have given more than 7.7 million hours of VoluntEAR service in 42 countries.
