Cuidiú Annual Conference to present Positive Ways of Approaching Parenting and Parental Stress
Cuidiú, the parent to parent voluntary group, today announced that the theme of their public Annual Conference will be ‘Positive Parenting, Positive Support – How To Approach Parenting and Parental Stress in a Positive Way.’ The event takes place on Saturday May 18th in the Stillorgan Park Hotel, Dublin.
The speakers on the day include renowned clinical psychologist, David Coleman, whose presentation is entitled ‘Positive Approaches to Parenting’ and parent support counsellor, Sue Jameson, who will be speaking about ‘Parents under Pressure – Is your Best Good Enough?’
The Cuidiú presentations will give parents lots of ideas on positive things they can do to successfully deal with a range of difficult behaviour and issues that affect their children and families, as well as information about the support structures that Cuidiú offers in communities all over the country.
Commenting ahead of the conference, David Coleman says; “Sometimes children’s behaviour can push us to the limits where we feel like throwing our own tantrums! There are effective tools parents can use to avoid getting caught in the constant crime and punishment trap. If you want a more harmonious and thriving family then this talk is for you.”
Sue tells us: “Recognising what is normal behaviour can often reduce the stress and fear that is experienced by many parents who worry that they may not be ‘getting it right’. Children behave in certain ways and for every behaviour there is a reason. So how do we avoid the pitfalls of parenting and make the parenting pathway easier? This talk will expand on how to read signals and find out why children behave as like they do. And most importantly, how to enjoy the tentative steps into this uncharted territory of being a parent.”
The day will also see the launch of the new Cuidiú website, http://www.cuidiu.ie. The new web site has lots of useful information and resources and has been designed to be a parent friendly, engaging, Smartphone friendly, and easy to navigate.

Cuidiú
Cuidiú means ‘caring support’ in Irish. Our motto is ‘education and support for parenthood’. We are a parent-to-parent community based voluntary support group. Cuidiú supports families throughout all stages of parenthood – from pregnancy to adolescence. Our aim is to provide information to parents which allows them to make informed choices about pregnancy, childbirth, infant feeding and parenting – as well as to support and encourage them in those choices. Sue Jameson has worked in the field of education for parenthood and breastfeeding support for twenty five years. She is a tutor for Cuidiú, the parent to parent support group. Her special interest is in the physiological basis of attachment – ‘How do we develop and support the tie that infants have to their caregivers.’
Sue also works as a lactation consultant in a private practice and she is a widely acclaimed speaker who can cover many topics in relation to parenting and breastfeeding. Her talks are always lively, humorous and contain sufficient information.
