InactiveThe Irish Centre for Talented Youth….run by DCU they run courses for exceptionally academic children. Just got a note home with my daughter to say she is eligible to apply for the next stage in the process as she achieved above the 95 percentile in her entrance exam. Anyone have any experience of this…all new to me.

InactiveAnyone else see this program on RTE last night. http://www.rte.ie/tv/programmes/bright_ … hings.html
I was asking about this CTYI a few weeks ago and this explained a lot. A family from Drogheda on with 3 children who they feel are exceptionally gifted but are moving to Canada as they feel the Irish school system doesnt support their children.
well, have the application in and will see what happens.

MemberWhere they from Drogheda? Didnt know that as i missed the start, felt so sorry that the mum was going to have to leave the husband behind
I was thinking was it the same thing your Daughter was in…. i was in bits with the little chap from Kilkenny (i think) who had a brother with Downs and the mam had cancer…. when he cried before starting big school my heart went out to him and i started to cry, i just wanted to cuddle him!!!

MemberThey were from Grangerath I think, it looked like a house from there anyway.
My heart broke for that chap too Taylor. I cried watching him going off to school on the bus especially when his mam said it was the first time going to school by himself and when he was eating his lunch all by himself. Glad some lads came over to talk to him even if it was just for the camera.
Felt sorry for the girl with ADHD and aspergers (sp) when she said that she felt that she needed to go back on her meds even though she would lose interest in playing and socialising.

Inactivewas very sad watching that little boy heading off to school, so unsure. I think its right when people say its something that needs to be addressed in schools. Children who struggle to keep up with writing, reading, math etc. are given resource teaching but I think children who find school ‘boring’ because they are not stimulated enough need extra help also. They are the future of our country and need encouragement at this young age, not to be afraid to be different or intelligent.
Well as I said have the form sent off so now its just a matter of waiting to see what happens next….
