Large Book of nursery rhymes..there is one called Mother Goose and other rhymes it is illustrated by Axel Sheffler the same man who illustrated Gruffalo etc.
There are hundreds of rhymes in there with a little story along side it told by Mother Goose.

I always read nursery rhymes to my dd from being very young to the present day and at the last parents evening her teacher said thats why she was an exceptional reader.
She has seen over the years, that kids who knew all the nursery rhymes were the best readers…used to think it was very old fashioned when my mum read them to her but I am glad I kept it up.

Dinasaurs love underpants is also a very good book..as is anything by Julia Donaldson..such as the Smartest Giant in Town etc etc…

The snail and the whale is very good too, as is Charlie Cooks favourite Book.

Might start collecting the Enid Blyton books too such as the famous five I am sure my dd would love them.

Any book is great for kids once you read to them and get them to help read once they are older you can’t go wrong!!

Makes me laugh…. made up a song for the smartest giant in town… basically sing the "My tie is a scarf for a cold giraffe part..etc…" and now the kids sing the whole thing with me!
    Love all of those books!

oh i love to see kids with a book
dd gets to pick her story every night – sometimes it’s same one for nights in a row other times she changes – went to check on her one night and instead of teddy’s she had books all around her in the bed – i counted them 39!!!!!!!
I don’t particularly like them but she loves the Mr men and little miss
has all the classic fariy tales
    the gruffalo is brill
i usually have a look in tesco’s every week and prefer her to pick a book than to buy sweets – the baby’s in on the act now too she get’s so excited when we sit down
must print out your list scole and see what we have and what we can add to ours

Scole there is a buy one get one free deal on "selected" picture books in Waterstones at the mo including some lovely new ones "Forget me Not" is a story about an elephant which is beautifully illustrated. There are loads more in the offer.

Yummy your son might like The Horrible Histories by Terry Deary or the the Charlie Small series both available at Waterstones.

Anyone who ever needs any help to find the right books for kids don’t hesitate to ask me and if you are in Waterstones ask for a children’s bookseller to assist you, there are four of us! Don’t forget to check the children’s noticeboard in store for up coming events.

There are two kids bookclubs one for age 9-12 and one for teens and for the younger ones we have storytime every Saturday at 11am and 3pm
