Just to let people know about another support out there for familes who have lost a child. Barretstown is known by many as a place where children and families can go to have fun and also support when a child is ill.
However, they also run an excellent Bereavement Camp programme for families. Our family sadly lost our little girl aged 5yrs and we went to Barretstown as a family. We didnt expect too much but when your family goes throught the living hell of loosing a child you will try anything once to try and help yourelf and your other children.
It was a real turning point for us. I always remember as we pulled up outside the gates of Barrettstown we could just as easily have turned away…..we were so unsure of what lay ahead. But we went through the gates and it was a truely amazing experience. The bereavement support is excellent for parents and children but there is also so much fun and activities like high ropes, horse riding, canoeing, art etc. to name but a few. Our familly laughed and smiled again but also had time to remember our little girl with other familes in similar situations.
From personal experience I would recommend this as a great way to help a family work through the loss of a child in your family.
websiteis http://www.barretstown.org and there is a section on bereavement.
