Holding your baby close to you is one of the most wonderful feelings in the world, that feeling of nurturing your child, loving and caring for them. For many people it’s an incredibly special feeling, and the most wonderful bonding experience in the world. Imagine then, if it’s good for mums and dads, how good it is for the babies themselves.

Keeping babies close lets them know they are safe, secure and loved. Carrying your baby helps them to develop both physically and intellectually, and babies who are carried more tend to cry less and be happier too. Babies have been carried this way by their mums for centuries after all, so what better than to continue a tradition that’s well established and helps to set your baby up for life. At Kangaroo Babies they understand that babies need this contact, but they also understand that as a parent you also need to be able to move around and complete daily tasks, look after other children, use public transport, carry shopping and generally get on with life.

Babywearing is the word that has been created to mean carrying your baby in your arms with the help of a sling or baby carrier. Carrying your baby in this way allows you to keep your baby close to you, while leaving your arms free for all those other tasks you need to do.

Anja Alt from Kangaroo Babies has been trained by Die Trageschule one of the foremost schools of babywearing in Germany. The school works together with health specialists such as physiotherapists, and orthopedic doctors, it not only teaches people how to use slings, but it also teaches them how to teach others to do the same. Anja has completed a course with this school and has passed exams that accredit her as a babywearing instructor.

Many people buy a sling or baby carrier and then find it rather awkward to know how best to use it, so it sits in a corner unused, sometimes for months. Others know that they like the idea of carrying their baby in this traditional way, but aren’t quite sure how to go about finding the carrier that’s best suited to them. For all these people Anja and Kangaroo Babies offers a fantastic resource, a place where you can learn about the different types of slings and carriers that are available, as well as the different types of carries that can be used with the various slings. Mums and dads can try out a selection of slings either in a class, or in a private lesson at home, to find which ones might suit them best. They can also learn how to lift baby into various carries using a life size weighted doll. Once you’ve chosen your favourite sling or carrier Anja can then advise you on where you can buy that sling. She can even order some types of sling for you.

So whether you’re a new parent, a mum (or dad) looking at Babywearing for the first time, or someone who’s already bought a sling and now isn’t quite sure how to make the best use of it for your and baby, Kangaroo Babies has something to offer you.
