MemberHi yeah
as a mammy with a daughter who is in the Autism Spectrum (she is 5), have you actually been told that your son wont get into a certain school due to him being in Autism Spectrum ? Get them to put it in writing and sue them , they cannot refuse a child into a school due to this ffs..
we have enought shit to be dealing with as a parent of a child with autism to now having our children turned away from secondary schools…Its a disgrace, I would ask for a meeting with the school you want to send him to and get everything in writing they say , and if its a no go further..

MemberI understand you wan to find a school who not only will accecpt him (just because they have to) but also will actually really care for him.
Sure you’ll get plenty of advice of parents who’ve been there before.

Membermy nephew is quite independent now compared to the way he was a few years ago when he first started he was going through a very volent and angry phase at that time the ollies really helped my sister he does go through them phases alot but not as much as he was. its the dreaded mixture of the teenage hormones and lazyness at the mo that driving his ma mad now 🙄
like if tells him his dinners ready he will say i will get it in a minute a minute is 4 hours 😆September 17, 2011 at 3:49 pm #116673michelle hatch

MemberA school can’t refuse your child simply because he has autism – unless his / her needs are so great that it would be obviously unreasonable to suggest that the school manage. We’d never refuse a child just on basis of autism – but we’d also have to tell parents that without proper supports it might not work, depending on individual child.
Demand to see their admission policy although to be honest, if trying to put you off already, I’d look elsewhere for support.
If child is fairly high functioning – thinking of boys in our school – prob only need sna in some classes & maybe at lunchtime etc if can’t cope with noise etc. We use library as ‘sanctuary’. Our lads well cared for within our means & not bullied etc. There ARE schools out there who are supportive. il pm you with extra

MemberIt might be worth going to one of the support meetings listed below and and talk to the parents. There will probably be parents there in the same situation as you and parents who have children in secondary school who will be able to advise. Someone there will know of the legislation regarding your child’s rights or give you contact details of someone who does.
This support group is for all parents and carers of children with autism of all levels not just the kids in The Abacus School.
