    Hi all, :)
My lil boy is 23 months and is a really bad eater. He could go the whole day without eating if i let him. When he was younger he would eat everything he was brilliant but now is so different. The main things i get into him is chips, chicken nuggets and fish fingers. He wil have a yogurt or a custard pot. He loves biscuits they are the only treats i give him i dnt let him have chocolate but have recently stopped with the biscuits.
The other thing is tho a few months back he started waking once during the night looking for a bottle. He has always bein brilliant at sleeping so lucky there but the last say 2 weeks he was waking more and over the weekend he was up at least 4 times looking for a bottle im worried he is not getting enough to eat during the day and its effecting his sleep.
I dnt mean to sound selfish but im exhausted myself from being up so much during the night.
If anyone has any ideas they would be really appreciated as i would try anything with him I have already tried a tonic to give him a appetite.
    Thanx

going through this myself to be honest! And I know that everyone will start giving you advice on all the healthy food options! And as much as I’d love to say that my two are loving peas and carrots and all good things…. I’m in the same boat…. and let me tell you, I had two BRILLIANT eaters…. anything and everything under the sun!

The only way that I get anything really "good" into them is via the whole innocent smoothie route…., plus my two like the "vie" shots…. and I give them the little fruit and veg gummi vitamins from the chemist. This way, even though mine are also consuming the chicken nuggets and fish fingers etc…. I feel that I’m at least getting some kind of goodness into them. I also have a constant supply of cheese, and yoghurts etc in the house… cos they love that….., crackers, hotdog sausages, ham, copious amounts of strawberrys…. they LOVE those, and they love my pasta… so, I try and sneak some stuff into that too! So, I’m kind of sympathising with you, more than anything else!

I am sure you have tried all the usual chopped veg and dip, chopped up fruit, all manner of food cut up into shapes all all that **** so I am not going to be condesending and suggest all the super mum bleurgh…

I mean just google healthy food for kids and you are going to see a million and one things to give him.

If he is healthy and not getting sick I wouldn’t worry.

    But I am not a doctor 😆 😆 😆

Ah thanx chewieodie i was jus getting so worried bout him i was a really bad eater when i was younger myself but my partner would eat anythin and always hoped the baby would take after him. Im goin to go to tesco now and get him some smoothies and the shots. Would you think that is why his sleep is being effected? I was going to try and wean him off the bottle altogether but i think im best off waiting til i get the eating sorted first. Any suggestions bout taking his soother off him? he loves it but i know some kids that are going to school and still have one and dont want him like that coz it wil be even harder then. 😀

I am sure you are being paranoid…

Does he toilet properly? Thats a good indication too?

As I said I don’t like discussing health on the internet as don’t want someone to read and take as gospel…

But if you have been to doc and he says its ok and you think hes ok then he probably is.

Plenty of good web sites around for ideas.

My dd eats like Posh Spice on a diet and not a bother on her.

Prob just a phase. Milk is very good for him if he likes that maybe give him the one with extra vitimans in ( red carton?).

Plenty you can do , but as I said in my other post I am sure you know all that but just worried..

If he runs around and sh*ts well its all good 😆

I have the same problem with my 3yr old. His brother is only 7months and will eat more than he does. I found that buying things that have shapes on them or characters makes a huge difference. I bought some cookie cutters and they do for nearly everything. Star shaped sandwiches go down a treat. I shape his potatoes and mash carrots and broccoli and shape them into a square cutter too. Its a little more hassle but it least it keeps him fed.

    The soother…..
I know a buddy of mine had her DS leave the soother for the baby reindeers….. and got a pressie instead!
with mine it was pretty easy to be honest…. it went from being during the day, to only at nap / bedtime….. and then one day I just said to him that he was a big boy now and that only babies had them…. and he told me to throw it out of the window! And so I asked him if he was sure, and he said yes…. and I told him that once it was gone, it would be carried away in the wind and we’d never see it again (granted, I had it saved at the top of the cupboard just in case of emergencies….)
So, it got thrown out of the window….. and he asked for it two nights in a row at bedtime, I reminded him that he had thrown it away… and that was the end of that….. gone….
In terms of the food side of things….. he may be hungry at night, hence the waking….
If it weren’t for smoothies and dairy in our house, mine would starve! 😆 And of course my DD mimics exactly what her big brother does, so if he doesn’t touch it, she won’t either… and she would be far more adventurous! …. but hey, I reckon that they are strong, healthy and happy kids….. they’ll eat when they are hungry! In the meantime I just get sneaky! lol…..

    What about soup?

How about making a picture on the plate?

Most boys are into trains – shape fishfingers like train have peas coming out like smoke and clouds can be mashed potatoes worth a try

Ill get great fun myself with that.

Makes shapes out of his food. Cut sandwiches into shapes and make fun faces on a plate with veggies and fruit. Get him involved, like ask him to put the eyes or nose on the face with grapes etc

I had the same problem with my little guy when he was younger and I was worried sick at the time so understand how you are feeling. Thankfully he grew out of it and is a great eater now but it was worrying at the time

I tried to make food interesting to him. I used to call broccoli stalks trees and carrots swords and he got such a kick out ofeating them he would ask for more (Bear in mind I spent months previously mashing up veg, making soup and hiding veg in with pasta etc) and then suddenly, he’s wolfing big lumps of broccoli and carrots!!

Maybe bring him to the supermarket with you and ask him to help you choose foods he will eat. Some kids like to be involved with buying the food, it can help encourage them to eat it.

Hopefully he’ll get better at eating soon but don’t worry too much. My friends little guy went through a phase of wanting to eat nothing but snax tayto and he grew out of it!!

    Good luck!!
