InactiveWe went at the weekend to Newbridge farm in Donabate & I was horrified at the conditions that most of the animals were in.
I just couldn’t believe that most of the animals had no access to water or shade & it was a very hot day. there were no staff visible looking after the animals welfare, just the people taking your money at the entrance.
The goats & sheep were right up against the fences trying to get as much shade as possible & they had very rapid breathing.
Most of the cages that the birds were in were rusty & the faeces hadn’t been cleaned out for well over a week.
I saw some goats that seemed to have some form of skin condition, clumps of hair missing & scabs on them.
I found the whole thing very upsetting & I contacted the DSPCA who said they will investigate the situation. I’m waiting to hear back from them.
Has anyone else been there recently?.

ParticipantWe haven’t been since Easter – i would be surprised if the animals weren’t cared for as they should be – i always got the impression that the animals were well looked after but in fairness i’m not an animal person and wouldn’t know an animal in bad conidition unless it was blantly obvious. I have seen water in the pens in the past, not sure about shade i know some of pens definitely have shade but maybe not them all.
Bad form alright if things were that bady Haileysmam and i’d be very dissapointed if it is the case that the animals are being neglected – my girls have always enjoyed a day out there.

KeymasterWe went last year (we go every summer) and did not see anything like that, there were staff around working with the animals and we saw no signs of cruelty. We always felt this was a well run farm and a good one to take the kids to. That’s terrible to hear – we always liked going there with the children because it was a well organised place and the animals seemed well looked after. 🙁

InactiveI have to say it really upset me,i am a qualified veterinary nurse who in my career have worked with small, large & zoo animals so I know what they should & shouldnt be doing,i just couldnt get over the amount of animals without access to water, shelter or shade.
A lot of the animals were very emaciated aswell, ribs sticking out and everything.Have heard back from the ISPCA to say that theDSPCA are investigating so hopefully improvements will be made very soon for these poor animals.

Fair play to you for reporting what you saw HaileysmamJune 13, 2013 at 2:13 pm #128191mammycool
ParticipantWe were there on the May bank holiday. It was a lovely sunny day and all the animals appeared in good form and had water. I took loads of photos for the kids. I was a bit shocked when I read this and looked back over the photos and zoomed in. All looked healthy, had shelter and drinks. Sad to think that it could go that way.
