Inactiveour Child care place, are looking for 250EURO for 1 hour!!!!!! when we already told them we would be late before we left her off, they kept saying that it would be ok……. 10 euro for every 4mins over your time!!!!! 😯
Are these fees legal??? do you really have to pay them??May 6, 2010 at 7:24 am #94429munchin
Participant250euro for an hour no way 😮 😯
check out the agreement you would have signed up with fees etc – it should be in that. In ours you have 10hours per day (which thankfully i’ve never used) and are charged over that – can’t remember what the amount is but it certainly isn’t €250.
I would argue that if you weren’t informed they can’t charge you HOWEVER as far as i know you would have been given a list of fees & charges when you signed up and got a new one when fees where reviewd at anytime.May 6, 2010 at 7:46 am #94434super minder

InactiveThats shocking, surely you pay a day rate and that entitles you for the full day in creche until they close. If you pay for a half day and they are in for an extra hour, surely the max you pay is the full day rate. If they are messing you around like that, i would considering moving they are taking the pxss. Is this in Dublin or Drogheda?

Memberwell that’s a bad one…seriously have a chat…
i’m not sure what usually most places charge, i remember years ago like when the punt was still in my mom and i worked in a creche and it was 5pounds every 15 mins, the reason why they introduced that was parents weren’t bothered getting back on time and some staff ended staying until 7 or 7.30 when the places was supposed to close at 6, then staff had to clean but never were paid for staying extra time, so they said that if a staff member had to stay late then they would be charged….it stopped people coming back late, but when people rang and were genuinely late and not on a regular basis they let it slide….
hope you get sorted that sounds a little crazy defo chat with them and as someone has said already check you agreement

Participantactually i asked our crehce yesterday about these charges.
They are open from 7.30am until 6.30pm, when you pay for the day you have 10.5hrs. They do have a late fee but in 3.5yrs have yet to apply it, she did say that there was an occassion where one particular parent was consistently late and she explained that she would have to impose the charge if it continued. They have stayed late to accomadate parents running late ie the snow they were there until 8pm and didn’t charge parents.
Btw i should state their late charge is € 6.50 per hour. I would definitely be refusing to pay € 250 – really sounds a silly amount to be looking for.
Have you spoken to creche yet – be interested to hear how you got on? Maybe who ever told you the amount got it wrongMay 7, 2010 at 9:06 am #94477Anonymous
Inactiveno they even sent home a letter with our daughter!!! to say as a good will they would accept 150euro…….. i said to other half they should accept a day rate in stead(it is the government free year…anything to make a bit extra money) as we are never late… and my daughter is only in this place 1 month… talk about a bad impression i will NOT be sending my son to this place…. they even charge 6.50 a week for what i thought from their book let was a dinner every day, but i found out she only gets a yogurt and apple because it is a snack(my daughter attended from 2-5pm) not lunch…… i had her off for 4 days sick and she was only in for one day and they are still looking for the 6.50…. i HAVE to pay it she said….. I will not be recommending this place to anyone…(its in SLIGO)

Participantso it’s not creche as such it’s playschool/preschool – i don’t know if different policy would apply here as in she’s there from 2-5pm set hours, as in if she was in school what would happen if you were late to collect her? sorry not playing devils advocate here but if it was school and you were going to be late you would have to have someone else collect her.
As for the € 6.50 for the snack – i wouldn’t imagine the creche is obliged to provide a snack for children attending under the free preschool place but again the preschool should have made it clear it was a snack and not dinner – i know my daughter is entitled to her free place next sept but her fees will only be reduced not abolished. However all that being said i still believe the amount they are looking for is totally out of order – and they haven’t done a good job of communicating with you as parents. Good luck -really hope you get it sorted.

ParticipantI doubt very much if it is legal for them to charge this amount of money. I know there was a lot of debate between these people on charging a top up to what the government was paying but I do not know the outcome of this. I would check with citizens advise. Did you sign a contract?
My dd attends the local playschool twice a week. He will be doing the free pre-school year next year but there are no fees at all and he brings his own lunch.
Sounds like some sort of a con job.
