Am just so fed up, poor Hailey just cant seem to catch a break…she has barely gotten over the chicken pox (she is still covered in the scabs) & now for the past 2 days she has green snot constantly streaming out of her nose, there was so much over night that I had to change her bed sheets & then this afternoon her eyes have started oozing yellowy gunk (I think its conjunctivitis)….and all this on top of her cough that is now going into its 6th month.

We have her appointment with the respiratory specialist in Temple street in the am & I just hope they can do something for her & don’t just try & fob us off…..I mean I don’t know how much longer we can all take of this as at least 5 out of 7 nights of the week we are up & down with her most of the night giving her inhalers & water to try & shift whatever flem is caught in her throat, we are all just exhausted zombies & I just feel so bad for poor Hailey that she never seems to be well for any length of time.

Grumble over………just needed to get that off my chest :(

went to temple street this am for 9am appointment……we didn’t get seen by anyone till 2 hours later & Hailey was exhausted & upset at this stage. then we saw one of the consultants who sent us for a chest xray then back to see the head respiratory woman. then down for bloods to test for allergies.

The route they want us to go down for now is to double her inhalers for 6-8 weeks and go back to them & if that’s not working they will do something else.

They also want us back in a few weeks time for a chloride sweat test that helps diagnose cystic fibrosis. I really hope its not the case but will know within 48 hours after the test.

All in all just a long day….Hailey’s exhausted & so am I,think I’m going to go for a nap now while shes sleeping herself.

Its a nightmare being stuck in a hospital with an unwell baby for a long period of time like that – apart from the frustration, there is the worry about her picking up germs from other kids too.

I feel so bad for you guys – hope she catches a break soon. Maybe when the weather lifts, it will be better for her. Lets hope we got some good sun this year and that helps clear things up.

Poor little lamb – give her a cuddle from us. x

    Hi

Just a little recommendation for you. Invest in a Humidifier from Argos. It is brilliant – you plug it in (it looks like a bottle sterliser) and put a small amount of water into it and then throughout the night it puts out little droplets of water and keeps the air moist. This may help her to sleep and ease the coughing and her nasal congestion too.

I have to admit that, and I know it is not the same, but when my son had the croop I got a lend of one and it was a miracle worker. The difference in his breathing and also he got a good nights sleep.

Itis worth a try, especially if you have central heating, because it is a torture for drying the air out.

I hope she gets some relief soon and you a full nights sleep

    xx 🙂

God you’ve really had a rough time.

My kids both have a lot of respiratory problems. its so important to keep the air in her bedroom moist – so i always leave their windows of their bedrooms open during the day, even if its cold. If they start coughing during the night, i boil kettles of water in their room, it makes the air moist & it does help ( a temple street nurse told me to do it). When they have colds I also get plugin vicks plus i put Vicks on their feet & chests. I also raise their beds with books & make them sleep sort of half sitting up with pillows.

Sounds like a lot but it does help with their sleep.

    Best of luck.

Thanks for those tips Mary- I didn’t realise that there was a vicks plug in, will look into that today.thats interesting as well about boiling the kettle, I suppose its meant to replicate a humidifier.

hope Hailey is improving, forgot bout the vicks on feet def works well it does help my two girls. My dd1 had coughs, cold, chest, ear infections all through the winter she was 1, was less the following yr and so on. Now it’s just the usual colds. I did like MaryE said and raised the cot so that she was sleeping slightly raised and i used the karvol in the room but i’d say the vicks plugins are probably better as they’d go through the night. REally hope shes improving & that you all got some rest over the weekend.

We got the results of Haileys cystic fibrosis test & I am so happy to say she was negative for it 😀 ,so at least that is that crossed of the list.

i think we still have a bit of a road ahead till they figure out the right medication for her as we have had 6 weeks now of double doses of inhalers but they haven’t helped at all.She is still coughing pretty much non stop at night & a lot during the day aswell.

We have another appointment in the next few weeks with the respiratory team in temple street so hopefully they will figure something out & we should get her allergy results then too.
