I mam have asked this before but interested to see if anyone has any ideas
my 16month old regularlly wakes between 4-5am – it’s habit – she’s not hungry she eats plenty during the day, drinks plenty BUT has always woken between 4-5am. If I take her into my bed she’ll go back asleep but if i attempt to leave her in the cot she will ROAR until everyone is awake.i’ve tried letting her cry it out – took 4 nights, she slept great for a week and started all over again
I’ve done the sitting beside the cot – end up in work with eyes on stalks and she still roars until i take her out
i’ve made sure she’s well fed & watered
it’s not her nappy
her bottle time as a newborn was 4am and she’s just always woken at this hour even though the bottle is long gone.any ideas???? or do i just resign myself to these early mornings, i know it’s little to be worrying bout she’s fine healthy child thank god but mammy would love more than the odd night of straight sleep!!!!!!!

Sorry i cant help but im sure someone will have some advice xxxxOctober 12, 2010 at 2:16 pm #102279FabienneMemberIf it was a miracle answer all mums in the world would do it.
I can only share my experience but what works with 1 child does not wit another.
I did let her cry, it took about 6 days. It worked for a good week, the early wake-up call again.
I did let her cry it took 4 days the second time, and worked for 2/3 weeks.
And little by little it worked for longer.
Still for about a year, she would waked up every 2/3 months.
Because it was unusual, I would go to her (or send my dh 😳 ), and she woke up few nights in a row just to try if we get to her.It was easier as she is our first, so the only people awake would be us parents, and our neighbour always said he never heard a thing (was he polite about it or never heard, will never know), so it was doable.
So if deep down I knew she was fine, I let her cry, otherwise she’ll keep testing us.
She likes the compagny, we need our sleep. We’re lucky it worked.
Best of luck.October 12, 2010 at 2:23 pm #102280munchinParticipantthanks girls – i thought about doing the crying thing again – last time we did it myself, dh & E1 ended up in our bed wide awake when E2 finally fell asleep!!!!!!!!!
See Fabienne the shock to my system is E1 slept from 12-7am from 4weeks – she was your dream baby – never slept 12hours but from about 4months was going 7.30pm to 6.30am she rarely wakes at night but E2 is making up for it 🙄
We’re going away in a few weeks so will think about it for when we come back – i’m wondering will she sleep better if we change the cot to a bed mmmm only problem there is if she wakes and i’m not lifting her there wouldn’t be a hope in hell she’ll stay in the bed 😆 😆 😆October 17, 2010 at 5:16 pm #102676AnonymousInactiveWhat I used todo when my little boy woke up early was to have the travel cot ready to go in our room….i took him straight from his cot in his bedroom to the travel cot in our room….he seemed to be awake and wanted company. He could see me in my bed but wasn’t in the bed with me . So at least I could doze off again knowing he was safe. 9/10 times I did that and he kept babbling away to himself, looking at books, some toys etc. in the cot. I didn’t talk to him too much as didnt want him to think it was ‘play time’ 🙂 ….worked for me! It was definately just company he wanted.
As for changing to a bed….I use a bedside so they dont roll out and the Lindan fold up stair gate at the bedroom door to keep them safe so they cant wander. Its soft mesh so they cant hurt themselves if they are sleepy heads in the morning.
