Hi all,
Our friends daughter is making her communion next week and we are wondering how much to put in the card.
We were thinking 20 euro, that seems generous enough to me but I heard some people are putting 50 euro into cards for friends children??
I’m thinking that if we put 20, then when our children make theirs, there will be less pressure on our friends to put a huge amount of money into a card.
Trying to be sensible about this….What do ye think of this?
May 18, 2010 at 4:13 pm #94763munchinParticipantPersonally I ‘d go with €20
€50 would be what I’d put in a card for nephew/niece – actually for my nephew & niece that have made communions we’ve bought part of their outfit type thing or given a small pressie and € 20 in card.May 18, 2010 at 7:39 pm #94766beamsMemberI agree with 20 euro. Thats very generous. Im giving 10 euro in a card to neighbours child. For my godsons first holy communion last year i got him a liverpool dvd (big fan 😀 ) and a prayer book. I like to give keepsakes if i can – it means more in the long run – i think anyway. 😀 They get so much they wont know how much you have given or for that matter what you have given. Plus if you are good friends with the parents they will recognise the sensible approach . 😀

Money means nothing to her, she gets more pocket money per week than I do 🙄 so I am literally trying to think of what to get the child who has everything!!!

Two friends daughters made theres recently i gave €20 plus a keepsake a picture frame…
I will not be giving cards outside the church either – i recently heard it still goes on…
May 19, 2010 at 9:28 am #94779yummymummyMemberAlot of people gave €20 to my ds for his last year, his godparents and some family members gave €50 which I thought was hugely excessive.
My cousin made hers and I gave her €10 and she was delighted (this was all I could afford) €10-€20 is the norm Id say.
And defo NO cards at the church that is just ridiculous!!!!
May 19, 2010 at 1:36 pm #94785JedtKeymasterI spoke with a mum yesterday and her son’s school sent a letter home to all parents asking them not to exchange cards at all and I thought that was really sensible.
Apart from taking the pressure off parents, its better that the kids don’t get too much money. Its gotten out of hand in the last few years but seems like people are being less extravagant this year.
Sounds like 20 euro is plenty for us to give then – thanks for all the advice 😀

For her little friends she bought a litte gift to mark their special day. Aunts, Uncles etc. bought her things she needed like a braclet, ear-rings etc. But there was no ‘crazy’ money issue.
