Pampers to Donate Smallest Nappies To 4,500 Irish Babies Born Pre-Term

Pampers Continue Its Commitment To Donate Its Smallest Nappies To The 4,500 Irish Babies Born Pre-Term Every Year

– Pampers has donated almost one million nappies to Irish hospitals since 2017 and this World Prematurity Day (17 November), Pampers wants to empower Irish parents to feel confident to touch their premature babies to enable essential moments of bonding –
[14 November 2024] Premature babies’ skin is two times thinner than that of a full-term baby which makes it highly sensitive to touch.1 Despite this vulnerability, touch is vital for premature babies as it’s the first sense a baby develops.2 These moments of touch and skin-to-skin contact can support their development as it increases levels of oxytocin3 an essential hormone to create a familial bond.
According to new research conducted by Pampers in the UK4, 82% of parents with babies born prematurely felt nervous to touch their baby whilst in neonatal care, with 52% citing the fragility of their skin as the main reason. Touch is essential to the development of babies2 but for the 1 in 16 babies in Ireland that are born premature5 every year, with skin twice as thin1 as a full-term baby, it can be a challenge to get these essential bonding moments.
Pampers wants to empower parents to feel confident in caring for their premature baby by creating essential moments of touch and bonding. Their Pampers Preemie Protection Nappy is specially designed to be extra gentle on even the most fragile of skin whilst also having a customisable fit to accommodate for medical lines and leads. These tiny nappies were developed with neonatal nurses and parents to be extra gentle on even the most fragile of skin. Designed to fit around medical lines and leads, the nappies aim to make nappy changing easier for parents and nurses and support up to 6 hours of leakage protection to help keep baby’s delicate skin protected.
Pampers is committed to the healthy and happy development of every baby born in Ireland, and since 2017 Pampers has donated almost one million of its Premium Protection nappies to premature babies in Irish hospitals across the country, and will continue to do so, ensuring every baby gets access to the nappies they need.
This World Prematurity Day (November 17th), Pampers is partnering with Irish content creator, Róisín Doherty, from county Tyrone whose son Brodie was born at 33 weeks, to help raise awareness of Pampers Preemie Protection nappies by sharing her prematurity experience. Speaking about her experience she said:
“It’s amazing to look back on Brodi’s entry into the world and see how far he has come, from that tiny 4lbs 1oz baby to the boy he is now. A neonatal unit can be a daunting place for any parent, but the nurses were incredibly supportive and really helped us navigate through the weeks that followed, encouraging us to be involved in Brodi’s day-to-day care. When your baby is in the neonatal unit, all you want to do is give them the best chance to grow healthy and strong, and this also means having the right nappy for their needs.

I’m so proud to be partnering with Pampers for World Prematurity Day. The Premium Protection range from Pampers was designed especially for the littlest of fighters and it is fantastic to hear that they are continuing with their commitment to donate free nappies to Irish maternity hospitals to support the little babies and their families. We are so grateful that they allowed us to have those special moments of touch and bonding during nappy changes, whilst keeping her delicate skin protected.”
Pampers Preemie Protection nappies come in three sizes to meet the needs of the tiniest little fighters – sizes P1 (<5lb/ 2.7kg) and P2 (<4lb/ 1.8kg) and P3 (<1.8lb/ 0.8kg). To find out more about Pampers Preemie Protection nappies, see www.pampers.co.uk.
