Bereavement advice for families after tragic death of 16 year old

Words of advice from Allen O’Donoghue, from Help me to Parent

In terms of support and advice for parents to help there teens, I would say the following:

Allow your children to talk/vent – sometimes we don’t have to say anything or give advice, sometimes all people need is the opportunity to talk through things and figure them out for themselves;

Speak to the school to see if they can offer any extra support to our child;

It is important to reassure the children that young people dying like this is such a rare occurrence that it most likely never going to happen to anyone they know again, never mind themselves;

If they are really struggling, get them to go and speak to a professional, they can contact me directly at
