Its not often my 3 sisters and our Mam and me get together for a break away! The last time was my sisters hen, 3 years ago! So we were very excited to be able to get together for a little pre #Mothersday treat to take our Mam away for a night. We didn’t want to go too far, so we decided to stay at Tulfarris Hotel in Wicklow. Set up in the mountains, this is a lovely hotel with stunning views all around it.
We stayed in interconnecting rooms, with a living room in between the bedrooms so we had lots of space. It was like a little aparment really – we had 5 beds, 2 showers, 1 bath and a big L-shaped couch to snuggle up on!
As soon as we landed, we all got in to our fluffy robes and relaxed with a few glasses of bubbly. Then we got our glad rags on, did each other’s make-up with some music playing and we were all in high spirits as we headed to the award winning Lime Tree restaurant for dinner.
The Goats cheese whipped starter was delicious and my sister devoured her chicken liver pate. They came with a accompaniment of cheese & chive scones and the most delicious home baked breads.
For mains, 2 of the gals had steaks with chips and the other 3 of us had the slow cooked beef. This was so so delicious – the beef literally broke apart when we put our forks into it. It had been slow cooked and was very tender – just delicious.
For dessert we shared sticky toffee pudding, chocolate mousse and a honeycomb & ice-cream dessert.
After dinner, we went in to the bar where there was live music and we stayed there for a while. Then we went back to our room, got into our jammies and had the best craic playing silly games like charades and this really funny game where you have a pair of tights tied around your waist with a rubber ball in the foot of the tights. The ball is swinging down and you have to try and knock over water bottle with it. Very silly but I actually had a pain in my belly and face from laughing!
For us, it was just so nice to be altogether that we didn’t really care where we were but I have to compliment the hotel on our room, it gave us loads of space to be together and the living room was perfect for when we wanted to hang out in the room with a few glasses of wine in our jammies and just have a bit of craic!
